Twenty-one-year-old Leland Yoes, of Springfield, Tenn., was driving a 2000 GMC pickup north on the Highway 10 South hill on Thursday, December 20.

According to investigator THP Sgt. Ed Crouch, as Yoes entered the curve, the slick roads caused his vehicle to skid out of control across all lanes of Highway 10. His pickup struck the embankment causing him to be ejected from the passenger side. After he was thrown out, the truck traveled back across the roadway coming to final rest on the guardrail. “He was not restrained,” said Crouch.

The young man was transported to Sumner Regional Medical Center to receive medical treatment for a broken wrist.

THP Sgt. Crouch investigated another accident on Union Camp Road on Thursday morning, December 20th, when a 2003 GMC Envoy flipped on its side due to the wet road conditions.

Red Boiling Springs’ resident Ellen Christy Ramirz, age 29, was traveling south on Union Camp when she unsuccessfully negotiated a curve. The driver skidded across both lanes of travel, struck the ditch, causing the vehicle to overturn onto the driver’s side. She was transported to Macon County General for minor injuries.

Sgt. J.J. Ruiz, of the Lafayette Police Department, was called to the intersection of Highway 52 West and Walmart on Wednesday night, December 19, to work a two vehicle accident.

Perry Farley was driving eastbound in a red Chevy pickup truck when a white Chevy Cavalier failed to yield at Walmarts and hit his truck head on. The impact sent the car across the road into the grass at the carwash. Marcelia Proctor was driving the automobile. No injuries were reported. Citations were issued to Ms. Proctor.

Trooper Danny Fisher worked an accident on Highway 52 West at Lambert Lane on Wednesday, December 19 involving a 2006 Hyundai driven by Mary Scruggs and a 2007 Altima, with Angela Harper behind the wheel.

Apparently Scruggs pulled out from Lambert Lane into the path of the westbound Altima and the two vehicles made contact.

On Tuesday, December 24, Christmas Eve, a Ford Expedition flipped on its’ side on the New Harmony Road after a 17-year-old juvenile overcorrected. The Macon County Sheriffs Department investigated the accident.

Then on Christmas Eve night, the Lafayette Police Department investigated a one car accident on the Union Camp Road.

Responding to the accidents were the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Macon County Sheriffs Department, Lafayette Police Department, Macon County EMS, Macon County Rescue Squad and the Macon County Chronicle.
