altA local Tennessee Tech duo had a record setting day recently.

On day one of the 2014 9th BoatUS National Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship on Lake Pickwick in Florence, Alabama, Tennessee Tech Duo, Landon Anderson and Tyler Arms caught a hefty five fish limit weighing 28.09 pounds!  This broke a record of the most fish being caught in a single day on Lake Pickwick in Florence, Alabama.

Landon and Tyler have fished together for 2 years on the Tennessee Tech fishing team.  This was their first time to fish in the National Collegiate Championship.  This was also their first time to fish on Lake Pickwick and certainly didn’t fish it like rookies.  The event was held at McFarland Park, on shores of the Lake Pickwick and Wilson, has brought together over 154 collegiate anglers from all over the nation who completed for the most prestigious title in college bass fishing.

On day two, being the number one team, Landon and Tyler had a cameraman to ride with them all day in their boat and his comments about them were they wanted to win this event for their school after Tech finished second in the past two years.  He also noticed that these two, self proclaimed lovers of fishing shallow, didn’t even have big graphs on their boat like many of the teams do today and instead have just basic older smaller units.  Fishing deep they said isn’t their strength and wasn’t even their plan but they adapted on day one and it’s paid off.  They were fishing out of their comfort zone.  Landon & Tyler caught five fish on day two with a total weighing 18.39 pounds making their two day total of 45.98pounds.  Georgia’s team caught 23.68 pounds on day one and caught 26.16 pounds on day two winning the 2014 Boat US National Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship.

Landon & Tyler placed 2nd in the 9th 2014 BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship with a total of 45.98 pounds.  They were the highest place team to finish that qualified for the Ranger Cup.  Landon and Tyler won an all expense paid trip to Texas to fish in the Ranger Cup Tournament in the fall which is sponsored by Ranger Boats.  They were also the top finishers that qualified for the Yamaha Motors, Costa and other sponsors winning all of the contingent money and prizes.  The 9th BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Tournament will air on NBC Sports and World Fishing Network as well as others in September.
Landon and Tyler graduated from Tennessee Tech on May 10, 2014 standing side by side as they both received their Ag Business Degrees.

Landon is the son of Wayne and Lee Ann Anderson of Red Boiling Springs.  Tyler Arms is from Jamestown and is married to his beautiful wife, Allison.  Congratulations to Landon and Tyler for all of their accomplishments. Good luck fishing in the Ranger Cup!
