On Saturday night, July 20, around 9:30 p.m. a one-vehicle wreck occurred on the Galen Road near Friendship Church. Antonio Santiago, age 34, of Lafayette, was driving eastbound on State Highway 261 in a 2003 Chevy Venture, when he ran off the road on the right hand side, hit a light pole and overturned. Alcohol is suspected to be a possible factor in the crash.
Santiago was reported to not be wearing his seatbelt, and he was transported by EMS ground to Vanderbilt Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition on Monday morning.
THP Sgt. Wilson, of Clay County, conducted the investigation.
Responders were the Macon County Sheriffs Office, Macon County EMS, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Macon County Rescue Squad and the Macon County Chronicle.
