|Tuesday, February 12, 2013|
The basketball teams from Macon County High School are finishing the 2012-2013 season well and looking to push deep in the postseason. This week Macon hosted White House on Feb 5th and on the 8th traveled to Westmoreland.
Tuesday February 5th was designated Senior Night for the Class of 2013. Coach Beam started all four of this year’s seniors and they put the pressure on the Lady Blue Devils. Terra Pryor was on fire, playing in her last home game, pacing the Tigerettes to a 16-10 lead after one. Five other Macon scorers put their foot on the gas as this game was decided by halftime, with a score of 38-16 in favor of MCHS. Coach Beam was able to get all of his girls playing time in the second half. The Tigerettes coasted to a final victory by a score of 73-38 over White House.
Scoring was: Kelsey Gregory 20, Kailyn Brooks 5, Terra Pryor 17, Briley Driver 5, Leah Anderson 6, Reese Shrum 5, Whitney Wilburn 7, Lyndsey Belton 3, Marisa Owens 2, and Jade Ellis 3. Kassidy Brooks played but did not score.
It was Senior Night for the Class of 2013. This year we will say goodbye to sixteen players and cheerleaders. We wish them all the best in whatever career path the road of life has in store for them.
Following the ceremonies between games, the Tigers and the Devils hit the floor. Macon had a slow start and the Blue Devils were playing tough. After one Macon led 10-6. Then the flood gates opened and the Tigers said, “Come on in boys, the water’s fine.” With a massive scoring run where the basket had to look as big as the ocean, the Tigers scored 29 more points in the quarter, only allowing 4, and they led 39-10 at the half. The high point was a crowd pleasing dunk by Senior Trey McPherson.
Following intermission, the Tigers continued to play at a high level. Coach Welch was able to go deep into his bench and everyone got into the game. As all the Seniors came off the court for the last time, the Tiger faithful showed their appreciation. Final score Macon 66 White House 33.
Scoring was: Aaron Carter 7, Trey McPherson 11, Peyton Clark 6, Dalton Shrum 17, Tyler Clark 8, Dillon McCormick 7, Justin Tucker 3, Austin McClard 3, and Mayson Shrum 4. Daniel Gregory, Evan Perrigo, Trace McPherson, Tyler Carlisle, Alex Hill, and Clay Carnahan all played but did not score.
MCHS traveled to Westmoreland on February 8th. The Tigerettes came out firing on all cylinders, hitting 6 of 10 from the field and led 17-4 after one. All five starters scored in the first half and MCHS led 27-11 at the break. Coach Beam would once again get his bench some playing time as the Tigerettes win big 52-26 over Westmoreland.
Scoring was: Gregory 9, Kailyn Brooks 2, Pryor 23, Driver 3, Anderson 5, Shrum 3, Wilburn 6, and Belton 1. Owens, Ellis, and Kassidy Brooks played but did not score.
The Tigers had a tough fight on their hands. Westmoreland came out playing hard and they led 13-6 after one. The Tigers scratched their way back to a 24-24 tie at the half. MCHS had a little trouble scoring in the third and once again found themselves down 35-42 going into the final period. This senior laden team has had mixed results this season grinding out wins in the final minutes. However, the Tigers simply out-shot and out-scored the Eagles to force overtime with a 52-52 score. The Tigers played some good defense and willed themselves to a 60-53 quality win over the Eagles. The performance of Westmoreland’s Dillon White is worth mentioning as he dropped 30 points on the Tiger defense.
Scoring was: Carter 4, McPherson 24, P. Clark 1, D. Shrum 10, T. Clark 15, McCormick 2, and Perrigo 4. Tucker, McClard, Gregory, and M. Shrum all played but did not score.
Macon will play one final game against Station Camp before the District 9AA tournament begins at Vol State in Gallatin.
