Mealy-Mouthed Preachers PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, November 4, 2008
The world loves mealy-mouthed preachers. They’ve been around from time immeasurable, uttering their soft-spoken platitudes for which earth’s insincere crave. Some in the age of Isaiah demanded, “Smooth things”. Their exact words were, “Prophesy (or preach) not unto us right thing, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits (Isaiah 30:10). Though that was spoken eons ago, the same attitude is well and alive today. Don’t tell us right things (the truth), speak smooth things. Munchers, living off the fat of the land, in their case, congregations, invade pulpits like a swarm of honeybees, prostituting their talents for a mess of pottage.

Unfortunately, using a good rural term, “the woods are full” of those who prefer preaching that portrays God as a senile old grandfather, too lazy or indifferent to spank one of the children no matter what sin that child may have committed.

But thank God for those preachers who have not bowed their knees to liberalism, paganism, and political correctness. They are doing the work prescribed for them: “Preach the word, be instant in season, out of season, reprove, rebuke, exert with all long-suffering and doctrine” (2 Timothy 4:2).

Too many church members today, especially preachers, are on a “low salt diet” and that is why there isn’t sufficient salt to preserve society. That was what was wrong in the ancient cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. There isn’t enough salt in the halls of congress and in the studios of the liberal news media to preserve the soul of a jaybird, if it has one. And to make things worse, many of the pulpits throughout America are salt-less, because those who occupy them are liberal preachers who, like Oprah Winfree, take the position that there is no such thing as sin.

J. Harold Stephens, down in Shelbyville, Tennessee tells this one: “In an old-fashioned tent meeting, the preacher went and put his arm around a stranger during the invitation hymn and said, “Don’t you want to go to Heaven with me?” The fellow replied, “Well, I might, but I’ve made arrangements to move to Arkansas.”

There are those who don’t know the difference between heaven and Arkansas, or other places, because they’ve been sitting at the feet of mealy-mouthed preachers who don’t believe there is such a thing as sin, who spend their time spreading their liberal philosophy, which includes advancing the notion that Islam is as good as Christianity, even though many Muslims are violent, and Islam denies that Jesus is the son of God. No wonder society’s foundation is crumbling.

Now, believe it not, there is a movement in Washington to stop real preachers from denouncing homosexuality. They are calling it a hate crime. The mealy-mouthed have already stopped condemning it.
