During the event honoring Macon County’s retired educators, three MCRTA scholarship winners were announced along with three newly retired Macon County teachers.
Winners of this year’s scholarships were Elizabeth Presley and Kally Vinson of Macon County High School and Tylor Wix of Red Boiling Springs High School.
Elizabeth, the daughter of Jimmy and Janet Presley, and Kally, the daughter of William Vinson and Angela Ray, both plan to attend Volunteer State University to pursue degrees in elementary education. Tylor, the son of Tammy and Kerry Smalling, plans to pursue a career in music education at Lee University.
Special guests Diane Jones and Malinda Owen from the Macon County High School Guidance Department and Stephanie Loftis from the Red Boiling Springs High School Guidance Department were also present to support scholarship award winners from each school.
With a combined 103 years of teaching between them, newly retired Macon County teachers Susannah Mullen (35 years), Virginia Brockett (22 years) and Earl Pitchford (51 years) were also honored for their dedication to education during the luncheon.
Macon Bank & Trust employees Sammie Peterson, Kathy Keene, Debbie Mason, and Kristie Cothron served a lavish lunch catered by Linda’s Cakes to all of the honored guests, raffled off door prizes and Macon Bank CEO Radford West spoke on behalf of all bank employees in showing their appreciation for these all-star educators.
Music for this year’s event was provided by Mel Perdue and Margaret Cook, who included everyone in a group singing of several uplifting songs.
The next MCRTA meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 8th, at Green Bank.
