While we all look forward to the fair every year, this year we celebrate its 30th Anniversary – 30 years of unforgettable memories with our families, friends and neighbors.
Continuing to honor the Macon County Fair tradition of offering a variety of contests, pageants, exhibits and shows, this year’s schedule is jam-packed with entertainment appealing to the entire family.
Kicking off the pre-fair schedule of events is the highly anticipated Demolition Derby on Saturday, August 4th, at 7 p.m. where families can cheer for their favorite drivers as they smash their way to victory. Admission to the Derby is $5 and the contestant registration fee is $20. On Sunday, August 5th, all floral exhibits will be judged at 5 p.m.
Along with the opening of rides, a long list of other events are also scheduled to take place on Monday, with fair exhibits being judged at 8 a.m. The Opening Ceremony will be held in the Wilburn Pavilion at 5:30 p.m. and the Macon County Fair Princess and Macon County Fairest of the Fair pageants will begin at 6 p.m.
Also scheduled for Monday, when carnival armbands can be purchased for $16, is the Sheep Show at 6 p.m. and the ATV Rodeo at 7 p.m.
Tuesday’s events will begin at 6 p.m., and include the Pedal Pull, Battery Powered Vehicles event for children, Goat Show and Mule Show at 6 p.m. and the Mrs. Macon County Pageant at 7 p.m. The Ms. Senior Macon County Pageant will immediately follow the Mrs. Macon Pageant. On Tuesday, carnival armbands can also be purchased for $16 and all students, K-12, will be admitted free of charge.
On Wednesday, fair guests will be invited to attend the Little Miss Macon County Fair Pageant, and the Young Cattleman’s Show all at 6 p.m. The Commercial Beef Heifer Show at 6:15 p.m. and the Macon County Fair Beef Show at 6:30 p.m. The Petite Miss Macon County Fair Pageant will take place at 6:45 and the Macon County Fair Sweetheart Pageant and the Truck Pull are scheduled at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, which is the ‘Church Night Armband Special’ night, costing $13 from 5 p.m. to closing. Wednesday’s Truck Pull is a new event to the Macon County Fair and is sponsored by the Kentucky Outlaw Truck & Tractor Pullers Association, Inc. Total prize money of $640 will be given to winners in each category. Classes include: 6200 Pro-Street 4WD, 5200 Modified Stock, 6200 Pro-Stock 4WD, 5500 Pr-Street 2WD, 4200 Mini Trucks and 8000 Pro-Stock Diesel. The entry fee for participants will be $20, and the cost of admission will be $5 for adults and free for children 12 and under. Concessions will also be available.
Thursday events include Senior Citizens Day lunch and Bingo from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Baby Show at 5:30 p.m., and the Antique Tractor Pull at 7 p.m. On Thursday, all Macon County Veterans will be admitted free and carnival armbands can be purchased for $16 per person.
Two popular events, the Tractor Pull and Talent Show, will take place on Friday night at 7 p.m. A cornhole tournament at 4 p.m. and a horseshoe pitching tournament at 6 p.m. will also draw a crowd to the fairgrounds on Friday. Carnival armbands will cost $16.
Youth Pet Show will kick-off Saturday’s events at 2 p.m. with the Marble Tournament taking place in the Martha Wilburn Building at 3 p.m. Then test out your skills on the grill at the Backyard Cook-Off at 5 p.m. The 30th annual Truck Pull, sponsored by KTPA Pulling Series, and the Rabbit Show will be held at 7 p.m. Admission to the Truck Pull will cost $5 for adults and free for children 12 and under. The entry fee for contestants will be $20. Classes include Prostock 4WD, Lite Super Tractors, Pro Stock 2WD, 4000 Mini Truck and Super Modified 2WD Truck. First through 10th place winners will receive prize money. A live country music concert and dancing, featuring Tommy Ross and the TCB Band, will close out the 2012 fair events at 8 p.m. at the Martha Wilburn Pavilion. Carnival armbands can be purchased on Saturday for $16.
During fair hours, a petting barn will be open, the Farm Toy Show will be on display and the Macon County ‘School Days’ exhibit will take place in the Bobby Carver School House. News Channel 4’s Snow Bird will also be making an appearance at the fair on Tuesday, Aug. 7th from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
The theme for this year’s 30th Anniversary of the fair is ‘We’re Having a Party and Everybody’s Invited,’ which will be portrayed throughout the week in the themes of various booths set up in the Sally Wells Building.
Commercial and educational exhibits will be open for viewing each day, August 6-11, from 5-10 p.m. and the Women’s Building will be open for exhibit viewing Monday through Saturday from 5 – 10 p.m.
Fair exhibits will include submissions in the following adult categories: canning, clothing, creative table setting, field crops, fine art, floral, gardening, home cookery, needlework & crafts and photography. Youth exhibits will include sewing, needlework, canning, project/club exhibits, arts and crafts, posters, home cookery, floral, photography, creative table setting and gardening.
This year’s fair will also include a nightly cash giveaway announced at 9 p.m. in the arena. To enter for your chance to win, put the tickets given to you at the gate, in the orange buckets located around the fairgrounds, Monday night – Sunday night.

Exhibit entry information: All youth exhibits/entries can begin set-up at 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, August 4th. All adult entries are to be set-up between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 5th. Exhibit pick-up of all entries is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 12.
