Readers Asked to Nominate Senior Citizens for Valentine's Day Contest PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, January 20, 2009
As Valentine’s Day quickly approaches, the Macon County Chronicle, the Macon County Senior Citizens Center and Lafayette Broadcasting, are hoping to make this year’s holiday extra special for two commendable senior citizens by kicking off the first annual ‘Mr. Charming and Queen of Hearts Valentine’s Day Contest.’

By nominating a man over the age of 60 to be crowned ‘Mr. Charming’ and/or a woman over 60 to hold the 2009 title of ‘The Queen of Hearts,’ nominees will be entered into the contest, where a panel of unpartisan judges will select the nominees most worthy of the honor.

Judging will be based on the Question & Answer portion of the nomination form (found on Page A-14), where nominators will explain, in 100 words or less, why they feel their nominee(s) is/are deserving of the title.

Winners will be notified by Sunday, February 8th, and must be available for a photo.

Both winners will receive a variety of prizes including a limousine ride, and free entry, to the Macon County Senior Center Valentine’s Day Dance on Tuesday, Feb. 10th. Each winner will also be granted four extra free tickets for the guests of their choice.

Both Mr. Charming and the Queen of Hearts will also be featured in the Valentine’s Day edition (Feb. 10th) of the Macon County Chronicle and will be crowned by a celebrity guest during a special ceremony at the Macon County Senior Center.

Individual prizes for each winner, include the following (additional prizes will be added in the following weeks):

Mr. Charming will receive – A bottle of cologne (provided by Mary Kay consultant Jamie Dallas), a complimentary dinner (provided by the historic Thomas House Hotel in RBS), a gift from Ace Hardware, a certificate for a free oil change and filter (provided by Hillwood Auto Parts), a free haircut and shave, a trophy, a boutonniere (provided by RBS Florist) and a box of chocolates (provided by Dollar General in RBS).
