Macon County Declared Disaster Area PDF Print E-mail

Over 75 bridges and at least 371 miles of roads were affected by the flood waters that swept through Macon County on Saturday, May 2nd, and with an estimated cost of $38.7 million already, President Obama and Governor Bredesen declared our county a major disaster area on Saturday night, May 8th, which brings the total number of counties to 42, with more declarations anticipated in the days to come.

Forty-eight-year-old Sherrie Lynn Chapman was arrested and charged with manufacturing of narcotics, possession of a Schedule II drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of probation and methamphetamine precursor on Thursday, April 29, by Deputy K-9 Handler Donnie Crawford and Sergeant Ira Meador of the Macon County Sheriffs Department.

Flood Waters Ravage Macon County PDF Print E-mail

Once again Mother Nature released her fury as heavy rains and lightning pounded Macon County over the weekend, sending law enforcement agencies, rescue squads and medical personnel scrambling to save lives and protect people from the rising water.

The line of heavy rain was relentless, reminding many folks of the Red Boiling Springs Flood in 1969, that still remains a topic of discussion 40 years later.

Severe Weather Hits Middle Tennessee Over Weekend PDF Print E-mail

Macon County received substantial wind damage over the weekend, when a string of tornadoes that killed ten people, including three children, swept across six southern states, including Middle Tennessee, and clipped the northwest section of our area around the vicinity of old Highway 52 and the Rocky Mound Road.
