Preliminary Hearing for Charles Harrison Postponed

The preliminary hearing for triple murder suspect Charles Harrison, who has been charged with three counts of Criminal Homicide in the Labor Day shooting deaths of Jamey Holland, Jessica Danielle Bentle, and Mooesto Retureta, has been postponed until Monday, January 15th, 2010.

“The preliminary hearing for Charles Harrison had been set for Monday, November 16th, 2009,” said Assistant District Attorney Justine Harris, “but for various reasons the date has been moved to January of 2010. While we believe Mr. Harrison committed these murders, we have the burden of proof and we will bring our evidence before Judge Ken Witcher in Lafayette and hopefully it will then be bound over to the grand jury on that date.”

While three members of the Red Boiling Springs City Council, Terry Newberry, Bobby Etheridge and John Cook (vice mayor), were absent for last weeks regular city meeting, it was unanimously decided by the three city council members in attendance and RBS Mayor Kenneth Hollis, that the role of vice mayor would be taken from John Cook and given to the newest council member Willy Brown.

$739,127 Error Found in County Fund Balance PDF Print E-mail

It was good news to some and disturbing news to others.  Macon County Mayor Shelvy Linville announced at the November 2nd County Commissioners Committee of the Whole meeting that budget information had been sent recently to his Administrative Assistant Tammy Russell and while proofreading, she discovered a $739,127 error “in the figures” in the county’s favor for the 2007-2008 year.  Reportedly the beginning fund balance for 2006-2007 was used by the software, rather then the 07-08 balance.

President Obama signed a proclamation declaring the H1N1 influenza a national emergency, giving doctors and medical facilities greater leeway in responding to the flu pandemic, as the rates of illness are rising rapidly in many areas and there’s a potential to overburden health care resources.
