Child Rapist Sentenced to 62 Years PDF Print E-mail

Thirty-one-year-old Vincent Parker Lee, of Lafayette, who was pronounced guilty of two counts of rape of a child, one count of aggravated sexual battery and two counts of incest in a Criminal Court jury trial last September, was sentenced to 62 years in prison by Judge David Durham during his recent sentencing trial.

Macon County Says Goodbye to Terry Polston PDF Print E-mail

Terry Wayne Polston passed away on Thursday, October 22nd, 2009, at his home here in Lafayette, after battling deadly stomach cancer for over eight months. Diagnosed in early February, he had surgery shortly after, but decided to forego any treatments, preferring to live a few more good months, without being sick. Born on June 6, 1952 in Macon County, he was the son of Johnnie Othell and Martha Brummitt Polston.

'No Shacks Wanted' - Commissioners Allow Property Rezone for Apartments & Tire Shop PDF Print E-mail

County Commissioners voted to allow the rezoning of two pieces of property during last Monday night’s meeting, following the public hearing held at the onset of the Legislative Body Session.

A couple of citizens spoke in opposition to the F.D. Fuqua property being rezoned, in order for the owner to be able to build a tri-plex apartment on the land, at 824 Wixtown Road.  “I’d just like it to be zoned so I can have a little more income,” adding that he wouldn’t build shacks or add junk trailers.

There was no shortage of entertainment to watch or events to take part in on Saturday, October 24th, as the First Annual Fall Funfest was held on the public square here in Lafayette. Live musical acts were featured as well as activities for all ages, including plenty of good food at Gibson’s Café and McClard’s Gifts.
