Two suspects were arrested in Allen County, Kentucky, on charges of aggravated robbery and assault after allegedly committing armed robbery on West Stinson Rd. in Macon County on Sunday, October 25th.

Macon County Sheriffs Deputy Matt Looper responded to a call at 88 West Stinson Rd. Monday night, after a male victim reported being robbed at gunpoint in a vehicle he was a passenger in.

To celebrate the season, merchants on the Lafayette Square are extending an invitation to everyone to join them for the first-ever Fall Funfest on the Square set for Saturday, October 24th, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

During the afternoon event, a variety of fall-inspired activities are scheduled at no cost for children and adults, including hayrides, storytelling, face painting, apple bobbing, photos with your favorite fall characters, musical entertainment, pumpkin painting and a Halloween costume contest.

In the spirit of the season of giving, $500 in cash will also be given away to present drawing and contest winners, and each of the local businesses participating in the event will offer special Fall Funfest deals and discounts to consumers.

On Saturday, October 10th, over 60 proud riders turned out for the Grim Reapers Motorcycle Club 6th Annual Pat Ashby Memorial Ride and Toy Run, with proceeds to benefit Santa’s Helpers.

This year’s event, which was held in memory of member Pat Ashby, of Lafayette, who lost his battle with cancer in 2004, raised $4,200 with the help and support of our wonderful community

A young Portland woman was critically injured in a two-vehicle accident on Highway 10 South, Tuesday afternoon, October 13th, around 5:30 p.m.

Jennifer Gilliam, of Portland, Tennessee, was driving south bound on the Highway 10 hill, in a 2004 Ford Explorer, when she lost control coming out of a curve and crossed the center line striking a 1993 Ford Flatbed pickup, which was driven by Calvin Johnson, Jr., head on in the north bound lane.

School Board Arranges Closed Meeting for Parents to Address Bullying PDF Print E-mail

The Macon County Board of Education met on Thursday night, October 8th, in regular session.  Once again parents appeared to address bullying issues and inquired about punishment for a student at Macon County Junior High.

In the September meeting, parents and the board discussed punishment for an offense to be served, that according to the board, would be served by a student.  The parents appearing at last Thursday night’s meeting asked why they had not followed their word, about requiring a student to sit out of a specified student activity, saying that a complaint had been filed.
