The County Committee of the Whole met in regular session on Monday night, September 8 in front of an overfilled courtroom. A new school roof, gravel for the trap shooting range and approval for the mayor and commissioners to attend the TCCA meeting were all on the agenda, however the two most controversial subjects brought before the committee were a budget change request brought up by Circuit Court Clerk Rick Gann and discussion on Cobb-Vantress and impact by the poultry industry. |

Clay County Man Charged With First Degree Murder |

Jackson County, TN - The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation charged a Clay County, TN, man with First Degree Murder for the death of another Clay County, TN, man who’s body was discovered dumped last week in Jackson County, TN. Joe Edward Daniels, 38, Cherry Tree Apartments, Celina, TN is in the Jackson County Jail on a $1,000,000 bond. Tuesday, August 19, 2008 the Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to a wreck along Highway 56 in Jackson County, TN and found an abandoned, crashed pick up truck. The truck contained evidence that appeared to be related to a crime. |

The 52nd Fall Meet Antique Car Show will be held in historic Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee at the Thomas House Hotel on Saturday, September 7th. This antique car show is known as Tennessee’s oldest show sponsored by Middle Tennessee Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America. This show has been greatly expanded offering 61 classes of automobiles with over 400 cars expected. |

Planning Commission Recommends Poultry House Impact Studies |

After hearing from a number of citizens in attendance at their August 19 meeting, the county’s regional planning committee agreed to recommend to county commissioners a temporary moratorium on the building of more poultry houses in the county until environmental, social, and property value impact studies can be done. “This county’s adopted CAFO (confined animal feeding operations) regulations which are enforced by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and we can’t tell a farmer ‘you can’t put in a chicken house.’ |
