School Board Puts Reins on Sports Practice PDF Print E-mail

When the Board of Education met on May 11th, they voted to rein in sports practice during school hours, to toughen alcohol and illegal drug policies, and to apply some new rules to use of school facilities.

“We are getting to the place where sports is taking over.  We need to put a little rein on this,” said Board Member John Wheeley.

Local Mom Receives State Recognition PDF Print E-mail

Laurenda Whisenhunt, of Lafayette, was honored as “Community Mother of the Year” by the Tennessee Justice Center at a reception on May 7th in Nashville.

Tennessee children were recently asked to nominate their “health care hero” mothers, by simply writing a few paragraphs on one sheet of paper and explaining what she did to ensure they received the proper health care.

After the February 5th, 2008 tornado, the folks in Macon County tumbled along uneasily, trying to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives and put them back together.

For many, such as Phil and June Spears, it’s taken several long months to finally put down permanent roots once again, and on Thursday, May 4th, Channel 5 News decided to catch up with the family and visited the couple in their new home.
