 On Wednesday, December 2, Macon County Circuit Court Judge John D. Wootten, Jr. ruled in open court that the Red Boiling Springs City Council violated its own city charter on November 12, 2009 when Mayor Kenneth Hollis and council members Billy Joe Carver, Steve Newberry and Willie Brown voted to remove the title of Vice-Mayor from councilman John Cook.

The court’s ruling immediately reinstates John Cook as Vice-Mayor of RBS for the remainder of his two-year term ending in May 2011.

The decision was announced from the bench by Judge Wootten at the conclusion of the hearing held at the Macon County Judicial Center in Lafayette.

As of press time, both the Macon County Republican Party and Macon County Democratic Party have intentions of participating in a May 2010 Primary.

While the decision for each party to have a primary is not surprising, it was a series of letters submitted to the Election Commission that left members wondering if there would be one at all.

The National Guard Troop E Support Squadron of the 278th Armored Calvary Regiment, located in Lafayette, left on Sunday, December 6th for pre-mobilization training at Camp Shelby, Mississippi as the first leg of deployment to Iraq. Tennessee’s largest unit, they will remain at this post for two months before deploying overseas with roughly 3,000 other Guardsmen.

Citizens for Smart Choices, which is a nonpartisan group of concerned citizens, taxpayers, homeowners and residents of Macon County, held a press conference on Monday, November 23rd, discussing their organization and voicing their concerns.

Seeking to improve government in Macon County, they have been meeting once monthly since mid 2008 to discuss issues that seem to plague our county and their common goal is to seek solutions for our mounting problems.
