Macon Bank & Trust hosted the 20th Annual Macon County Retired Teachers Association (MCRTA) Luncheon last Tuesday, June 2nd, in the Ray Goad Building of the Macon County Fairgrounds.

During the event honoring Macon County’s retired educators, three MCRTA scholarship winners were announced along with three newly retired Macon County teachers.

An excited group of Hayden Shrum’s friends and well-wishers met on June 6th, and began organizing teams to play in a benefit basketball tournament, to be held this coming Saturday, June 13.

Teams were hyped up and getting ready to play! Some of those competing will be the Pink Panthers, Mustangs, Devils, Part-Timers, Pick Ups, Old Fogies, Celtics, and even one called Dirty Laundry.

Join Paranormal State Cast in Thomas House Hotel Field Trip PDF Print E-mail

 After the ‘Room 37’ episode of A&E Network’s supernatural series Paranormal State, featuring the historic Thomas House Hotel, premiered on Monday, April 13th, hotel owner Cherry Cole said phones have been ringing off the hook with calls from curious travelers hoping to book a room and possibly have their own paranormal experiences.

But recently, one of those phone calls came from the show’s producers themselves, requesting a second visit to the historic hotel for a two-day Paranormal State Field Trip this August.

School Board Clashes With Athletic Coaches PDF Print E-mail

When the Macon County Board of Education (MCBOE) met in special session on May 28th, a crowd of coaches and parents of student athletes were in attendance to oppose actions taken at the previous board meeting regarding sports practice being reduced and eventually taken out of the regular school day.

Relay for Life . . . $38,000! PDF Print E-mail

On Friday night, May 29th, Lisa Yokley welcomed an estimated crowd of 1,000 people to Relay For Life at Key Park, a national event where participants all around the country raise money on behalf of the American Cancer Society and honor victims of cancer. Raising over $38,000 this year, the money goes directly to funding cancer research, lab materials and to people struggling with this disease.
