Lafayette Man Killed in Motorcycle Wreck |

Forty-seven-year-old Jackie Dale Wright Jr., of Lafayette, passed away on Friday, June 6, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in Jackson County, Tennessee.
The accident, which occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m., involved a white van driven by Martin Overstreet of Castalian Springs. According to the accident report, Jackie Dale was traveling north on highway 151 when the white van, traveling south on 151, crossed over the double line and into Jackie Dale’s lane, striking his motorcycle. |

Seven hundred Lafayette voters, including 451 early voters, took to the poles during the Lafayette city election to cast their ballot for mayor and three open city council seats.
In the race for mayor, J.Y. Carter came out in front with 353 votes over Jack Butrum (94 votes) and incumbent Bill Wells (245 votes). Carter is a Lafayette native, who worked part-time for the city while in high school, was a teacher at Macon County High School for 36 years and worked as a Lafayette mayoral assistant in past years. In the race for three city council seats incumbent Loryn Atwell, Richard Bransford and Steve Turner were granted the most votes (Atwell – 441, Bransford – 341, Turner – 333). |

Lafayette police arrested 31-year-old Lori Ann Gaylor, of Lafayette, on May 21 on charges of theft over $500 after reports that the Girl Scout ‘Cookie Mother’ of Troop 2137 allegedly stole money obtained by the troop through cookie sales.
According to a police report filed at the Macon County Sheriffs Department, Gaylor was put in charge of collecting all money from the troop’s cookie sales, but when the cookie money was to be turned it, Gaylor came up empty handed. |
