 Judy Gammons, assistant manager of Cash Express in Lafayette, arrived at work around 7 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 19, expecting to unlock the door and begin a typically busy day at the office.

But after finding that the office was flooded, the back of the building had been torn through and the company’s two safes were missing, Gammons quickly realized that her day would be anything but typical.

“I noticed that the floor was flooded and I called to tell the manager that the water heater had busted,” Gammons said. “And then I saw that the two safes were missing . . .”

Marijuana Found at Home of Shooting Victim PDF Print E-mail

On Monday, Sept. 8, Macon County Sheriff Mark Gammons and Deputy Mark Bartley arrived at 88 BJ Lane in Lafayette around 8 p.m. after receiving information that gunshots had been fired.

At the scene, police found Chris Stafford laying on the ground by a truck with a gunshot wound to the abdomen and Jesse Beasley Bowman, who is confined to a wheelchair, laying on the front porch of the residence beside his wheelchair.

The weapon used, a .410 shotgun, belonged to Bowman and was found by police at the scene.
