Imogene Shrum was born in Macon County, Tennessee on May 15, 1922 to the late Charlie Trenton Day and Cynthia Arlie McDonald Day.  She was one of ten siblings born to this union.  
As a young fourteen year old girl, Imogene was saved and later joined Days Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained a member. Imogene was married in June of 1943 to Thomas “Arvel” Shrum, better known as Arvel, sharing forty-three years together and raising one son, Dewey. Imogene was a stay at home mom and worked on the farm. She helped Arvel work in the tobacco fields. She also enjoyed raising a vegetable garden and canning the harvest.  In the winter time Imogene liked to sew and quilt. She also loved crocheting and doing embroidery work. Imogene’s family was what her life revolved around.  Arvel passed away on September 27, 1986. Besides her husband and parents; brothers, Ottis Day, Oddis Day, and Henry Day, sisters, Lassie Brooks, Jewel Thomas, and Pluma Day also preceded Imogene in death. On June 15, 2013, the Lord called Imogene to her new home. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but our loss is Heaven’s Gain. Funeral Services for Imogene Shrum will be conducted Tuesday, June 18th at 2 pm. from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Brother Tony Day officiating. Tommy Coulter served as Honorary Pallbearer. Ricky Day, Bobby Day, Dee Brooks, Gary Keene, Roger Day, Teddy Mahaney, Terry Tucker, and John Wezet served as Active Pallbearers. Interment will follow in the Nelson McDonald Cemetery. Imogene is survived by; Son, Dewey Randel Shrum of Lafayette, TN, Brother and sister-in-law, Oliver (Le) Day of Indianapolis, IN, Sisters, Christine Willis, and Loretta Brooks both of Lafayette, TN, several nieces and nephews also survive.  

 
Betty Jo Tuck Smith, 77 PDF Print E-mail

Betty Jo Tuck Smith was born on June 14, 1936 in Macon County, TN, one of two sisters, to the late Laura Agness Gregory Tuck and Raymond Rudolph Tuck. Betty departed this life peacefully in her sleep on Monday, June 17, 2013 at 7:20 p.m. surrounded by her family at the old home place in Sycamore Valley, age the age of 77 years and 3 days. Funeral services for Betty Jo Tuck Smith were conducted at the Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Lafayette at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 20th with Elder Dewayne Gregory officiating. Interment followed in the Will Gregory Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Tommy Scruggs, Bill Scruggs, Dan Birdwell, Harold Smith, Troy Day and John Smith. Betty was saved on October 10, 1946 at the age of 10 years old at the old Sycamore Valley School building. She later joined Sycamore Valley Missionary Baptist Church where she remained a member to her death. She was married on December 24, 1953 to Bobby Holliman Smith. Two daughters were born to this union: Vicky Ann on June 22, 1956 and Kathy Lee on April 6, 1958. Betty worked on the family farm her entire life. She worked at Imperial Reading and also as an aide at Janwynella Nursing Home for several years. Later in life, she sat with two elderly ladies, Mrs. Virginia Smith and Mrs. Clara Gregory, whom she loved dearly. Betty loved working in her garden, canning and freezing vegetables each summer. She loved cooking Sunday dinner each week for her family who all loved her cooking; especially the special treats at holidays. She was able to fix Easter dinner this year. She loved her flowers and plants and hummingbirds. She was a fine housekeeper and always kept everything neat and clean. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her only sibling, Mildred Ann Tuck Gregory. Along with her husband, Betty is survived by: daughter Vicky Ann Thomas and husband Jackie; daughter Kathy Lee Thompson and husband Mike; granddaughter, Michaela LeeAnn Thompson, all of the Russell Hill Community; brother-in-law, Douglas Gregory of the Coleytown Community; step granddaughter, Tabitha Thomas York and husband, Carl; step great grandchildren, Kayla, Mitchell and Carson York, all of Ashland City; nephew Dewayne Gregory and wife Tina; niece, Lisa “Sis” Gregory Smith and husband John, all of the Sycamore Valley Community; great nieces and nephew, Jessica Louise Gregory Russell and husband, Dustin, Jamie Marie Gregory, Leigh Ann Smith and Jonathon Gregory Smith; great-great nephews, Camden Wayne Russell, Cason Dale Russell, Baby Russell-to-be. Betty loved all her family and friends, but the greatest love and joy of her life was her only grandchild, Michaela LeeAnn Thompson, born on March 26, 1994, whom she called “Kalee”.  She cherished everything about caring for and nurturing Kalee. There will never be a greater LOVE than she showed for this child.  She was her LIFE!  We are sure that her last thought was that of Kalee!

Dorothy Mai Dyer Coker, was born April 30, 1946, in Macon County, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Chester Lee Dyer and Bessie Angeline Ladd Dyer. Mrs. Dorothy was very proud of her work and retired from Western Plastics in 2008 where she was a factory worker supervisor. In her spare time, she enjoyed working in her yard and flower bed. But most of all, Dorothy loved spending time with her family. She will always be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Dorothy was a good Christian woman and attended Liberty Hill Missionary Baptist Church. On May 22, 2013, the Lord called Dorothy home. She will certainly be missed by all who knew and loved her, but we realize that she is in much a better place. Besides her parents, 3 brothers, Terry Lee, Charlie Wayne, and Jimmy Lee Dyer, preceded her in death. Funeral Services for Dorothy Mai Dyer Coker were conducted Saturday at 3:30 pm from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Jimmy Case and Don Watts officiating. Interment followed in the Eulia Cemetery. Mrs. Dorothy is survived by; Daughters, Sharon (Danny) Troutt, Lisa (Joe) Elliott, and Karen McPherson, Sons, Timmy (Becky) Scruggs, Bobby (Reba) Sullivan, and John (Bridget) Sullivan, Brother, David (Cheryl) Dyer, Uncles, Charlie (Betty) Dyer, and Lawrence (Minnie) Dyer, 14 Grandchildren, and 12 Great-Grandchildren.

Charles Steven Likens, better known as Stevie, was born in Macon County, Tennessee on December 5, 1954 to Harvey E. Likens and Betty Jean Freeman Likens. He was one of seven siblings born to this union.  Stevie was preceded in death by; sister, Hilda Graves and infant twin sisters, Brenda Kay and Sharon Fay Likens. As a young man, Stevie married the love of his life Leanetta Ann Meador on December 17, 1973. Together they raised two daughters, Stephanie and Terri, and shared thirty-nine years together. Stevie’s family was everything to him, so spending the day with the kids and grandkids made his life complete. Stevie provided for his family by running a trucking company, hauling mostly locally, to service the area he called home. Spare time for Stevie was used for fishing and hunting. He was an avid sportsman and a member of the Macon County Coon Hunters Club. Stevie was saved at a tent revival as a young man and was of the Baptist Belief. On May 21, 2013 the Lord called Stevie home. He will truly be missed by all of his family, friends, and all that knew and loved him. Funeral Services for Stevie Likens were conducted Saturday at 1 pm from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Brother Marty Meador, Elder Jeff Likens, and Brother Kenneth Wix officiating. Tyler Johns, Doug Johns, Corey Newberry, Mike Likens, Ronnie Gregory, Ron Cook, Nick Storey, and Jason Hesson served as Pallbearers. Interment followed in Mt. Union Cemetery. Stevie is survived by; Wife, Leanetta Meador Likens, Daughters, Stephanie Likens and Doug Johns, and Terri Likens and Corey Newberry, Grandchildren, Breanna Johns and Nick Storey, and Tyler Johns, Great Grandchild, Brylin Storey, Parents, Harvey and Betty Likens, Sisters, Regina (Windle) Hesson and Anita Huff, Brother, Jeff (Sheila) Likens all of the Rocky Mound Community, Just Like Daughters, Jennifer Wilburn, Jennifer Turner and Christy Carr, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
