|Tuesday, February 7, 2012|
By Mark DarnellThe Tigers surrendered their first loss in District 9 AA. However they remain in first place with an identical record of the Tigerettes, at 7-1.
On Monday the 30th, MCHS traveled to Sycamore. Macon was able to play some stingy defense, holding the War Eagles to just 8 points in the first period. The Tigers heated up, with McPherson scoring 6 of his 15 points in the second. At the half, MCHS led 33-23. Both teams turned on the scoring machine in the third period and both teams got cold in the fourth. Macon led 54-45 after three and went on to win by a score of 61-53. Sycamore was 2-24 from behind the arc, and 0-9 in the second half.
Scoring were: Tyler Manning 5, Andrew Kempf 2, Trey McPherson 15, Dallas Grace 14, Brantley Russell 11, Dalton Shrum 6, Aaron Carter 2, and Tyler Clark 6.
On Tuesday the 31st, the Tigers traveled to Greenbrier. It was a good thing that the Tigers can play defense. They led at the half 22-15 despite going 7 of 22 from the field. After half-time the Tigers could only muster 9 points in the third and we had a ball-game at 32-31 with the 10 and 13 Bobcats after three. Macon managed to pick up the win by a final score of 54-46.
Scoring were: Manning 7, McPherson 5, Grace 10, Shrum 4, Russell 11, Carter 1, T. Clark 13, and Peyton Clark 3.
In the final game of the week, Sycamore came calling with better shooting on their minds. The War Eagles jumped on the Tigers and led 17-12 after one. McPherson came alive scoring 12 of his game high 22 points and Grace sank two big three pointers to take the lead at 30-26. At the half the score was MCHS 32 Sycamore 26. Here is where the game turned. Macon goes 2 of 17 from the field and Sycamore warms up from behind the arc in the third. Macon charges hard in the third but Sycamore has a an answer for every Tiger run. Sycamore does what it needs to do to win, as they sink 11 of 15 free throws and sink 4 of their 6 shots from the field in the final period. Final score Sycamore 61 Macon 58. The difference in the Monday and Friday games appears to be Sycamore going 5 of 10 from behind the arc in the final half of the Friday game.
Scoring were: Manning 7, McPherson 22, Grace 16, Shrum 4, Russell 4, and T. Clark 5.
The final three games for the Tigers are at White House on the 7th, hosting Westmoreland on the 10th, and at Celina on the 13th.
