Four Macon County athletes qualify for the 2013 TSSAA State Track Meet.

The A-AA Middle Tennessee Section Meet was held at the Lipscomb Academy Track on May 14th and 16th. The Section Track Meet is the qualifying meet for the TSSAA State Track Meet. The top two finishers in each event automatically qualify for the State Meet. The next two top finishers from all three A-AA sections also qualify for the State Meet.

Tuesday evening Sophomore Logan Hernandez finished the 3200 meters fourth in 12:16.08. Logan’s time was the second best time of all 3200 finishers, qualifying her for the 3200 meter finals in the TSSAA State Meet Wednesday night at 7:00 pm, at MTSU’s Track facilities.

Thursday afternoon Macon County’s 4 x 800 meter relay team of Katie Hix, Logan Hernandez, Katie Swindle, and Jasmine Hernandez finished third with a school record time of 10:14.77. This finish is the first best time of all third finishers in all A-AA Sections qualifying them to run in the State Meet. This will be the second consecutive appearance of Macon’s 4 x 800 meter relay in the State Meet. 2012’s team of Hix, Swindle, Chaparro, and Terra Pryor finished fifth.

Macon County’s Katie Hix finished third in the 1600 meters in 15:14.00, :00.84 off the school record time of Markie Voyles in 2007. Katie’s time in the 1600 meters is the first best time of all third finishers in all A-AA Sections qualifying her to run in the State Meet on Thursday. Hix also finished in fourth place in the 800 meter in 2:28.47. This finish was the second first best time of all third and fourth finishers in all A-AA Sections qualifying her to run in the State Meet.

Macon County Junior, Katie Swindle qualified in the 3200 meters in 2011, ( 5th place ) and in 2012, ( 4th place ) finished 7th in the Section finals of the 3200 meters failing to qualify for the State Meet. Swindle is nursing a sore ankle, but will compete on the 4 x 800 meter relay team.
