MACON COUNTY SOCCER LEAGUE RELEASES ROSTERS FOR SPRING 2011 PDF Print E-mail

The Macon County Soccer League held its coaches’ meeting on Saturday, March 5th.  Newly assigned coaches were given their team rosters and information concerning the upcoming spring 2011 season.  Parents should be contacted by their child’s coach this week. The first practices of the season begin on Saturday, March 12  at 9 am. If you haven’t heard from your child’s coach about practice times or for any reason by Friday, please contact David Denney at 655-7008, or go to the website at maconcountysoccer.com.

MCHS Tiger Alumni Football

It’s football time in Tennessee! It’s time to button up the helmets, strap on the shoulder pads and get ready for some football action! There will be an alumni football game between Macon County and Smith County on Saturday, May 21 here at Pat Parker Memorial Field. This will be a game for any alumni of the MCHS Tiger football program, and is sponsored by the Macon County Football Booster Club. Anyone that is interested in playing for the Tigers once again, needs to contact Coach Mark Pemberton, head coach of the MCHS football team at 666-2020 or David Phillips at 666-7230. There will be a meeting held on March 14 at 7 p.m. at the MCHS Football Field on Meador Drive for anyone interested in playing, cheerleading, or finding out more information. All proceeds will go to the Macon County Tiger Football Program.

MCHS Tiger’s Ham Breakfast

Macon County Football Ham Breakfast will be held on Saturday, March 12 at Lafayette Elementary School, from 6 a.m. – 10 a.m. Help support your Macon County Tigers and come out for breakfast with this year’s coaches and players. All you can eat for $6 a plate. Delivery available inside the city limits by the football players. Menu consists of Country Ham, Sausage, Scrambled Eggs, Gravy, Biscuits, Milk, or OJ.

Men’s & Women’s Adult Basketball League

There will be a men’s and women’s  basketball league started this year, that will play during the months of March and April. The games will be played at Lafayette Elementary School. There will be a meeting held on Monday night, March 7, for anyone interested in playing or putting a team in this league. For more information, please call 666-7230.

Macon Co. Youth Soccer

There is a MCSL coaches meeting planned for Saturday, March 5th. Coaches will be receiving a call from the league this week. Parents should be hearing from their coaches that weekend or early the following week. The first practice is scheduled for Saturday, March 12th.

Youth Softball Try-outs

Try-outs for the Macon Parks & Recreation Association Girl’s Youth Softball League will be held March 5 & 12 at the Harvey George Field. 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. (13-16 age); 12 p.m. - 2 p.m.. (9-12 age); 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. (5-8 age). New applicants or all those moving up to the next division must be present for at least one of these try-outs. All girls going into players draft must try-out, no exceptions. Try-outs will be conducted rain or shine (if rain occurs, signs will be posted at the field about the inside location.) Players Draft March 14.

The Red Boiling Springs High School Bulldogs and the Macon County High School Tigers lost two close games last Saturday night, February 26, 2011, that ended each of their season in Regional play.


Every team that played in the challenges on Saturday night knew this game would be the last one in somebody’s season, so they each placed their best effort’s out on the line, which showed during the two neck-in-neck battles.
For the Bulldogs challenge, they kept the trail close in each quarter, shadowing 8-6 in the first quarter, 25-20 in the second quarter, 36-33 in the third quarter, before running out of time in the final period to suffer a 52-41 defeat by Clarkrange. The game saw four ties, with the last being at 33 each in the third quarter with 1:57 left on the game clock. The Bulldogs were trailing by two points with 4:19 left in the game, however the Buffalos were able to up their score with several free-throws and one 3-point shot.


The RBS Bulldogs ended their season 18-14 in regional play. Wes Grace led the Bulldogs with 20 pts., followed by Andrew Mullinix with 8, Aaron Francis 6, Jordan Meador 3, and Jordan Grace and Shelton Watson with 2 each.
For the Tigers challenge, another heartbreaker came for our other local boys basketball team, as Macon County (20-10) lost to Maplewood, (ranked 8th in the state at 22-4) by a score of 46-45.


Fans commented the Tigers played their best game this season as Macon County kept the score within points of their adversary, shadowing the Panthers 11-9 in the first quarter and 19-18 in the second quarter. The Tigers were able to take the lead in the third quarter 34-32, however Maplewood snuck past with a one-pt. advantage that ended the game. Dallas Grace led the Tigers with 18 pts., followed by Zack Billenstein with 9, Tyler Manning 8, Shawn Kemp 5, Mic Wise 3, and Andrew Kempf 2.

The Red Boiling Springs High School Lady Bulldogs and the Macon County High School Tigerettes won their first Regional challenges Friday night, February 25, 2011, and will advance to the second round Monday night, February 28, 2011.


The RBS Lady Bulldogs defeated Pickett County for the third time this season, by a final score of 69-45. Layce Colter led RBS with 25 pts., followed by Heather Jenkins with 11, Mackenzie Painter and Katie Hix with 10 each, Marina Evans with 6, Kaitlyn McCarter 4, Hannah Hollis 2, and Kalisha Lynch 1.


The RBS Lady Bulldogs will play Trousdale County for their next Region 4A game.


The MCHS Tigerettes defeated Whites Creek by a final score of 82-60. Katie Reid and Kelsey Gregory led MCHS with 18 pts., followed by Katelyn Bean with 12, Haley Harris 9, Kailyn Brooks 7, Terra Pryor 6, Katie Beth Meador and Whitney Wilburn with 4 each, and Macey Kemp and Alyssa Tuck with 2 each.


The Tigerettes will play Christ Presbyterian Academy for their next Region 5AA game.

We had 10 entertaining games once again this past Saturday as we are winding our league down. We had to move some of the games around for the other Jr High and high school games that were taking place so we began our day at 9:00. In the 1st game, Connie Shrum’s team won over Dewayne Cook’s team 46-19. For Connie, Cayden Shrum had 11, Heston King had 10, Kendrick Carter had 7, Cole Carnahan and Isaac Belton had 6 each, Seth Barber had 4 and Jared Hill had 2. For Dewayne, Kelton Ballou had 10, Josh Hauskins had 5 and Trent Cook had 4.

The 2nd game had Brian Long’s team defeating Barry Polston’s team 36-20. For Brian, Owen Goodman had 13, Chase Long had 11, Michael Tirjan had 6, Josh Tirjan had 4 and Johnathan Pruitte had 2. For Barry, Kade Allen had 7, Spencer Hogin had 5, Ben Burrow had 4, and Landon Polston and Ryan Carver had 2 each.

The 3rd game had Laura Ward’s team winning over Chris Crowder’s team 7-4.  For Laura, Taylor Ward, Madilyn Goodall and Sierra Stafford had 2 each and Briley Morgan had 1.  For Chris, Haley Davis had 4.

The 4th game had Joey Wilkerson’s team defeating Matt Wilson’s team 9-0.  For Joey, Chloe Donoho had 6 and Kennedy Fleming had 3.  There was no points scored on Matt’s team but there were several girls that did a good job defensively.

The 5th game had Brian Long’s winning over Donnie Crawford’s team 15-14.  For Brian, Logan Williams had 11 and Samuel Reid had 4.  For Donnie, Tanner Gann had 12 and Logan Whittemore had 2.

The 6th game had Derek Meador’s team defeating Greg Cline’s team 21-12.  For Derek, Isaac Meador had 9, Connor Trent had 8 and Ryan Underwood had 4.  For Greg, Lake Reid had 6, Brody Clariday had 4 and Hayden Blankenship had 2.

The 7th game had Wes Clayborne’s team winning over Grace & Manning’s team 22-14.  For Wes, Elliot McGuire had 12, Gavin Clayborne had 4 and Landon Colter, Carson Pedigo and Wesley Carver all had 2 each.  For Grace & Manning, Connor Johnson had 12 and Alex Villanveva had 2.

The 8th game had Shawn Carter’s team defeating Shayron Jenkins’ team 23-18.  For Shawn, Keeley Carter had 12, Morgan Carter had 4, Krista Perkins had 3 and Keeley Clariday and Bailey Porter had 2 each.  For Shayron, Kristen Shoulders had 5, Chloe Cliburn had 4, Taylor Woodard had 3 and Kara Bowman, Bailey Tucker and Tamra Murphy had 2 each.

The 9th game had Kylie Clark’s team winning over Anthony Bullington’s team 15-8.  For Kylie, Sydney Henson and Cayley Tuck had 4 each, Bailey Morgan had 3 and Abby Tuck and Lauren Henson had 2 each.  For Anthony, Allyssa West and Kyndal Bullington had 4 each.

The final game had Jason Marsh’s team defeating Donnie Crawford’s team 25-3.  For Jason, Houston Stafford, Matthew Murphy, Aaron Colter and Dawson Brawner had 4 each, Devon Dillehay had 3 and Dalton Marsh, Landon Wix and Jerryn Howser had 2 each.

Jr. Bulldogs Semi-Final Action

The RBS Jr. High Bulldogs advanced to the semi-final game against Dibrill on Friday, February 18, 2011.
The Bulldogs improved their record to 19-4 for the 2010/2011 season after claiming a 34-31 win over Dibrill.
The Bulldogs opened the semi-final game with a 11-6 lead over Dibrill, which continued throughout the half time break, 17-15.
Dibrill picked up the pace to out score the Bulldogs  23-21 by the end of the third quarter.
The final round of play was a hot one, as baskets were being answered on both sides of the court.
A three-point shot by Skyler Holden just moments into the fourth quarter helped RBS get back on top, 24-23, but one minute later, Dibrill landed their own three to lead 26-24.
Dallas Greanead then picked up a free throw to shadow 26-25. Dibrill added three free-shots to change the lead their way, 29-25. Alex Mullinix nailed a two-point basket with 2:05 left in the game, inching closer 29-27.
Greanead prevented a basket under the goal at 1:25, followed by a two-point shot by Zane Roberts to knot the battle at 29 each. Dibrill answered with two points of their own to lead 31-29. With less than one minute to play, Mullinix re-tied the game at 31. RBS forced a full court press with three seconds left remaining on the game clock, that led to a three-point winning shot by Alex Mullinix, RBS 34, Dibrill 31.
Alex Mullinix led the Bulldogs with 15 points, followed by Zane Roberts with 11 points, Skyler Holden with five points, and Dallas Greanead with three points.
The Bulldogs advanced to the Championship game on Feb. 19, and became the runner-ups of the TNT Class 2A boys division. See next week’s edition for the full story.

Jr. Tigerettes ~ TNT Runner-Up

The Macon County Jr. High Tigerettes were able to pave their way through the Class 4A girls division of the TNT State Tournament to face Robert Ellis Middle School for the Championship title this past Saturday, February 19.
The game was tied at eight points each after the first quarter of play, and by the halftime break, the girls of Robert Ellis had acquired a two-point lead, 14-12. Returning to the third period, the Macon County Tigerettes found themselves trailing 26-19 after a few turnovers. The Tigerettes picked up the pace in the fourth quarter of play, with points made my Leah Anderson, Marissa Owens, Reese Shrum, and Emilee Harris, to shadow Robert Ellis 33-30 with 1:35 left in regulation. Moments later, Robert Ellis added one free throw to their score to lead 34-30. Reese Shrum was able to inch the Tigerettes closer with two free shots of her own, with 32.9 on the game clock. Two-points from Tigerette Emilee Harris tied the game at 34 each with 10.8 left to play.
Macon County then fouled Robert Ellis, giving them a one point lead, 35-34. The Tigerettes raced to their side of the goal with time for one last play, however the last scoring attempt failed, and Robert Ellis claimed the win.
Reese Shrum led the Tigerettes with 13 points, followed by Leah Anderson with 11 points, Emilee Harris with four points, and Briley Driver and Marissa Owens with three points each. The Tigerettes ended the season with an outstanding 19-1 record for the season. See next week’s edition for additional Jr. Tigerette TNT highlights.
