The group was organized in the early 70’s as the Lafayette Bass Club. Men like Carthel Driver, Carl Baker, Doyle Cothron, and Dow Whitaker were there in the beginning. The club has about ten regular season tournaments a year. The most successful team is crowned the points champion and the final event is a fish-off for the top prize of the season. This year’s champions were Randy Kinard and Rick Reed of Cookeville. Mike and Andy Roberts of Cookeville finished second, Stephen M. Belton and Troy Driver of Lafayette finished third, Bobby Brawner and Craig West finished fourth, and Barry Whitaker and Kelvin Stephens finished fifth. The final event of the season was held at Walnut Creek on Barren River on Saturday September 29th. Reed and Kinard won the fish-off with approximately 10 lbs, Wilkerson and Hartman came in second and Driver and Belton came in third. First big fish went to Barry Whitaker and second big fish went to John Dyer. |
