Firemen arriving at the scene said that the two-story section in the middle of the 3800 square foot family home belonging to Randy Green, was already heavily involved.
Units from Red Boiling Springs and Willette were also dispatched to the fire scene to assist Lafayette firefighters and the Westmoreland squad came to the Lafayette Fire Station on stand by.
“We were at the fire site for several hours,” said Assistant Chief Troy Brawner, who was in charge of the scene, “and we returned to the station at midnight.”
The firefighters not only battled the blaze but the heat and humidity as well. Macon County EMS was on hand to check vitals and make sure the firemen were okay.
The Red Cross was called to aid the Green family.
The fire rekindled on Sunday morning and the Lafayette Fire Department along with the Red Boiling Springs Fire Department returned to the fire scene.
The origin of the fire was in the middle section of the home and the structure was a total loss.
“We want to thank the Red Boiling Springs, Willette and Westmoreland Fire Departments for their assistance,” said Chief Keith Scruggs. “We really appreciated their help.”
Responders besides the fire departments: Macon County Sheriffs Office, Macon County EMS, and the Macon County Chronicle.
