Helman Rice, 77

Helman Rice, age 77 of Red Boiling Springs, TN, passed away Sat., May 23, 2009 at the Macon County General Hospital in Lafayette, Tenn. Funeral services for Helman Rice were conducted Tues., May 26, 2009 from the chapel of the Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Red Boiling Springs, Tenn. with Jerry Mercer officiating. Interment followed in the Whitley Cemetery.

His family served as pallbearers. Helman was born Jan. 23, 1932 in Macon County, Tenn., the son of the late Cleo and Lassie Wheat Rice. On Nov. 7, 1953, he married the former Velma Scruggs, who survives. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Peggy Dawes, Son, Kenny Rice, sisters, Etta “Sister” Atkins, Hazel York, Kathy York and brothers, William and Freddie Rice. He was a farmer and logger. Survivors besides his wife, Velma of 55 years include Daughters & Sons-in-law, Joyce  (James) Deckard, Lafayette, Tenn., Patsy (Garnett) Kee, son & daughter-in-law, Terry  (Sharon) Rice , Sisters & Brother-in-law, Stella & Kenneth Mclerran & Susie Randolph, Brothers & Sisters-in-law, Cordell & Cora Rice, Roy & Charlene Rice, & Tommy Rice all of Red Boiling Springs, Tenn., 8 grandchildren and 2 Step-Grandchildren, 15 Great-Grandchildren.
