MCHS Tigers Advance to TSSAA State Play-offs

Macon County Routs Westmoreland 14-6 to face David Lipscomb in First Round of  State

Story By: Misty Green

For the first time in five years, the Macon County High School football program has earned their chance to advance to the first round of the TSSAA State Play-offs.

Tha last time MCHS was in the State Play-offs was back in 2005, when they faced Chattanooga Notre-Dame and lost 39-0.

“I knew the boys had the talent needed to reach State and I am so proud of the hard work they have put in to get there,” Head Coach Mark Pemberton said.

This year’s advancement was based on the final game of the regular season against Westmoreland, played on Friday, October 29, 2010.

Macon County welcomed the rival Eagle neighbors to Pat Parker Field for this final challenge.

Westmoreland had won two games before this battle with one being against power house Greenbrier (20-19), who Macon County lost 26-6 to earlier in the season.

Fans packed both sides of the stadium as the teams prepared to get the game underway.

In the opening quarter, Westmoreland made their way to the endzone in  13 plays, eventually scoring the first points of the game.

Macon County returned in the second period to place early marks on the board with a passing score by QB Dallas Grace and Tyler Manning. Carson Cook’s PAT was good to lead the Eagles 7-6.

The Tiger defense stood firm against the Eagles and denied them all attempts at scoring.

In the third quarter, Tiger quarterback Dallas Grace made a great rush around the right end of the line of scrimmage and scored with a 14-yard touchdown. Carson Cook’s PAT was good, giving Macon County a 14-6 advantage.

The Blue & White defense dominated the rest of the game to seal the win, and advance the Tigers to the next level.
David Lipscomb (7-3) was paired with Macon County for the first round of the TSSAA State Play-offs.  The game will be held at David Lipscomb High School on Granny White Pike in Nashville on Nov. 5, with kick-off at 7 p.m.

Congratulations to the 2010 Tiger Football Team on making it to the TSSAA State Playoffs and good luck against David Lipscomb on November 5th!
