RBS Jr. High School Tip-off Classic

The Red Boiling Springs Junior High School Basketball teams held their Annual Tip-off Classic Tournament last week, October 26 through October 30, 2010.
On Tuesday, the 26th, Red Boiling Springs opened the tourney against Rickman. The Lady Bulldogs were defeated by a score of 31-24 and the Bulldogs lost by a score of 37-20.
On Wednesday, the 27th, The girls from Allons defeated Celina 36-29 and the Celina boys won their battle against Allons 41-28.
On Thursday, the 28th, the Red Boiling Springs girls took on Celina and were over-powered 40-26. RBS trailed by five points after the first quarter, however their opponent took an 18-11 advantage before halftime. With a little over two minutes remaining in the third quarter, Red Boiling Springs worked their way to shadow Celina 20-15, however by the sound of the buzzer, they were down 30-17, and were unable to recover for a 40-26 loss.
Lady Bulldog Kristen Stacey led the team in points with eight, followed by Kaitlyn McCarter with seven points, Olivia Atkins with five points, and McKinzie Hix, Alexis Ouellette, and Madison Medrano each added two points.
In the Bulldogs game against Celina… RBS’ Skyler Holden opened the challenge with a two-pt. lay-up, which was quickly answered by Celina. Dallas Greanead and Alex Mullinix added a pair of deuces for the Bulldogs, however
Celina held a 9-6 advantage at the end of the first and by halftime, their opponent had a 18-11 lead.
Red Boiling Springs came alive in the second half of the challenge and was able to knot the game at 18 by mid-quarter.
Two points each from Skyler Holden, Nick Deckard, and Zane Roberts, including a 3-pt. shot from Alex Mullinix, and four points from Dallas Greanead lead the Bulldogs to see their first lead of the night 23-22 at the end of the third period.
In the final round of play, the adrenaline had touched the red side of the ball, and Celina was left scurrying to add some points. Celina opened the quarter with four points to lead 26-23, however Red Boiling Springs dominated the court with two points from Nick Deckard and Alex Mullinix for a one-point lead, 27-26, with four minutes remaining on the game clock. The Red & Grey held the ball as long as they could, until a 3-pt. shot from Bulldog Zane Roberts put the nail in Celina’s coffin, 32-26. During the last minutes of the game, Celina accumulated nine fouls trying to recover the ball, giving Greanead and Mullinix two free-throws for a 32-26 win.
