MCHS Defeats Gordonsville in Tuesday Night Games

The Macon County High School Basketball teams hosted their first District 9 season challenge against Gordonsville last Tuesday, November 30, 2010, and both Blue & White teams were able to continued their undefeated winning streak.

In the girls game… The Tigerettes exploded the first quarter with a 21-11 lead over Gordonsville, and by halftime, Macon County held an impressive 38-15 advantage.

MCHS returned from the break to leave Gordonsville trailing 48-27, before picking up their sixth consecutive win by a final score of 63-39.

Katelyn Bean led the Tigerettes to victory with 15 points, followed by Kailyn Brooks with 14 points, Katie Reid with 12 points, Katie Beth Meador with seven points, Terra Pryor with five points, Kelsey Gregory and Whitney Wilburn with four points, and Michaela Thompson with two points.

In the boys game… The challenge against Gordonsville was much closer with a 12-point knot to end the opening period. Macon County was able to jump ahead of their visitors 16-10 to lead 28-22 before the halftime break.

The MCHS Tigers kept up the pace in the third quarter to lead 36-30. Each team put in 13 points in the final round, giving Macon County the win by a final score of 49-43.

Zack Billenstien led the Tigers to victory with 18 points, and two 3-pointers, followed by Tyler Manning with 14 points, Brantley Russell and Mic Wise with six points each, Aaron Carter and Dallas Grace with two points each, and Andrew Kempf with one free-throw.
