Red Boiling Springs Jr. High Teams Nab Wins from Hermitage Springs

The Red Boiling Springs Junior High School Basketball teams welcomed Hermitage Springs School on Monday, December 6, 2010.

In the girls game… The challenge between the neighboring schools stayed neck-in-neck throughout the entirety of the girls game, with several lead change-overs, and a mere points difference in each of the four quarters that were played.

After five action-packed minutes of play, the Red Boiling Springs Lady Bulldogs were able to leave the opening quarter with a 8-5 lead over Hermitage Springs.

The Lady Wildcats opened the second quarter with a two-point shot from Hannah Smith and midway through the period, a lay-up from Ashlynn Browning took the lead, 9-8. By the time the final buzzer sounded, two-points from Sydney Smith gave Hermitage Springs a 12-10 advantage over RBS.

The third quarter was touchy, as a lay-up from Lady Bulldog Kristen Stacey tied the game at 12, and then a steal and lay-up from Alexis Ouellette placed RBS back on top 14-12. Lady Wildcat Chelsea Copass inched forward with a free-throw, that was followed by a foul shot by Lady Bulldog Kristin Stacey, RBS 15, HS 13.

With three minutes left to play in the third quarter, Hermitage Springs nailed four points by Browning and Copass to lead 17-15, however two points from RBS’ McKinzie Hix re-tied the game at 17.

Less than one minuted marked the scoreboard, when Lady Wildcat Ashlynn Browning sank the last two points of the quarter, putting Hermitage Springs back in the lead 19-17 as the final third quarter buzzer sounded.

In the final period, Lady Bulldog McKinzie Hix unleashed a lay-up to tie the game at 19 each. Lady Wildcats Hannah Smith and Ashlynn Browning each received free-throw opportunities, however all four attempts failed. RBS’ Kaitlyn McCarter then played the final lead changeover of the night with a two-point shot, RBS 21, HS 19.

Hermitage Springs did not lie down during the last four minutes of the game, as points were marked by Ashlynn Browning (4 pts.), Hannah Smith (2 pts.), Chelsea Copass (2 pts.), and Tamekia Smith (1 pt.), however Red Boiling Springs did not let go of their lead to win the game by a final score of 36-29.

The Lady Bulldogs were led to victory by McKinzie Hix with 11 points, followed by Kaitlyn McCarter and Kristen Stacey with nine points each, Madison Medrano with five points, and Alexis Ouellette with three points.

The Lady Wildcats were led by Ashlynn Browning with 15 points, followed by Hannah Smith with six points, Chelsea Copass with five points, Sydney West with two points, and Tamekia Smith with one point.

In the boys game… The Red Boiling Springs Bulldogs opened the game against visiting Hermitage Springs with a lay-up by Alex Mullinix, that was followed by a free-throw from Wildcat Jared Browning. Moments later, the Bulldogs unleashed the rest of the Dawgs to pick up a 16-4 advantage leading into the second quarter.

By halftime, the Red Boiling Springs boys were resting comfortably with a lead of 30-7.

The Hermitage Springs boys were only allowed to complete two points in the second half of the game, which came from Wildcat Andrew Meadows. The score at the end of the third quarter held RBS at 53, HS 9. By the time the final buzzer sounded, the Bulldogs had achieved the victory with a final score of 61-9.

The RBS Bulldogs were led to victory by Brince Crouch with 15 points, followed by Tyler Carlisle with ten points,  Dallas Greanead with eight points, Wesley Davis with five points, Alex Mullinix, Nick Deckard, and Zane Roberts with four points each, Chance Asberry and Jimmy Langford with three points each, Skyler Holden and Donovan Greanead with two points each, and Tim Jones with one point.

The HS Wildcats were led by Andrew Meadows with five points, Casey Perdue with two points, and Jared Browning and Clay Copass with one point each.
