Unblemished (14-0) RBS Lady Bulldogs Claim Championship of Edmonson Co. Christmas Tournament

The Red Boiling Springs High School Lady Bulldog Basketball team traveled to Logan County High School to participate in the Edmonson County Christmas Tournament, December 20-21, 2010.

The Lady Bulldogs were scheduled to face the host of the tournament, and opened the game with a 16-11 advantage over Logan County. Dominating the second quarter 11-8, Red Boiling Springs acquired a 27-19 lead through the halftime break. Returning to the second half of the game, the Lady Bulldog’s momentum did not waiver, out-scoring Logan County in each period for a final score of 69-46.

Layce Colter led Red Boiling Springs (12-0) with 27 points and five 3-pointers, followed by Heather Jenkins with 15 points and three 3-pointers, Morgan Burgener with 11 points, Mackenzie Painter with nine points, including one 3-point shot, Marina Evans with five points, and Katie Hix with two points.

In the second round of the tournament, RBS was paired with Breckinridge County. The Lady Bulldogs opened the first half of the game with a 46-20 advantage over their opponent, and by the third quarter, they had acquired a 63-43 lead. In the final round, Breckinridge tried to make a comeback, leading the period 29-25, but was unable to defeat RBS as the final buzzer sounded, RBS 88, Breckinridge 72.

Layce Colter scored 30 points and hit four 3-pointers for Red Boiling Springs (13-0). Heather Jenkins recorded 19 points, followed by Morgan Burgener with 18 points, Mackenzie Painter with 14 points, Marina Evans with three points, Kalisha Lynch with two points, Mayson Burgener and Katie Hix with one point each.

In the Championship Round, Red Boiling Springs was seated against Metcalfe County, which indeed proved to be a game for the best of the best.

Metcalfe County led the opener 17-11, but by the halftime break, Coach White’s Lady Bulldogs had recovered to lead 38-32. Metcalfe led the third quarter in points 14-13, but the Lady Bulldogs second quarter push helped hang on to the lead 51-46. In the final round, Metcalfe put in 11 points to RBS’ eight, however the Lady Bulldogs was able to claim their 14th consecutive victory, 59-57.
