Lady Bulldogs Claim 2nd in Kentucky Classic

RBS Teams Going Strong – Ready for Watertown Jan. 4th

The Red Boiling Springs High School Lady Bulldogs went on the road this past week to participate in the 2010 South Central Bank Halton Classic at Allen County-Scottsville High School, December 27-30, 2010.

The Lady Bulldogs held off Warren East 61-38 and Smith County 55-41 in the first two games, however were over-powered by Bullitt East 47-38 and Westmoreland 50-39 in the final two rounds, to claim the second place trophy for Pool A of the tournament.

In the opening round of pool play against Warren East, the Lady Bulldogs led the opening quarter 17-10, which continued

throughout the halftime break by a score of 30-17. The Lady Raiders were no match for the Lady Bulldogs, and were downed by a final score of 61-38.

Layce Colter led the team to victory with 15 points, followed by Mackenzie Painter with nine points, Katie Hix, Hannah Hollis, and Kelsey Jenkins with six points each, Marina Evans, Heather Jenkins, and Kalisha Lynch with five points each, and Morgan Burgener with four points.

In the second round of the Kentucky tournament, the Lady Bulldogs clenched their 16th consecutive victory with a 55-41 win over Smith County High School on December 28, 2010.

The Lady Bulldogs led the first quarter 19-10, however the Lady Owls tried hard to recover, trailing RBS 33-29 by the halftime break.  RBS out-scored the Owlettes 6-1 in the third quarter, and  16-11 in the fourth, to claim a 55-41 victory over Smith County.

Layce Colter led the team to victory with 23 points, followed by Heather Jenkins with 13 points, Mackenzie Painter with ten points, Morgan Burgener with four points, Katie Hix with three points, and Marina Evans with two points.

The Lady Bulldogs then challenged Bullitt East for the December 29th third round challenge, and suffered their first loss of the season. The game was knotted at 17 for the opening round, and the Lady Bulldogs entered the halftime break in the lead, 25-24. Each team recorded six points in the third quarter, however Bullitt East pulled ahead in the final period 17-7 to claim the win.

Layce Colter led the team with 19 points, followed by eight points from Mackenzie Painter, five points from Heather Jenkins, three points from Katie Hix, and two points from Morgan Burgener.

RBS was paired with Westmoreland for the final round of the tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs led the first half 22-10, however Westmoreland returned in the third quarter to claim a a 31-27 lead over the Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Eagles out-scored RBS in the final quarter, 19-12 to claim a 50-39 victory over RBS.

The Lady Bulldogs were led by Layce Colter with 15 points, followed by Heather Jenkins with eight points, Marina Evans and Mackenzie Painter with seven points each, and Morgan Burgener with two points.

Congratulations to the four Red Boiling Springs Lady Bulldogs named to the All-tournament team in the December 20-21st Edmonson County tournament. They were: Layce Colter, Morgan Burgener, Mackenzie Painter, and Heather Jenkins.
