Tigerettes Claim 2nd in Nera White Invitational Tournament

The Macon County High School Tigerettes received a bye for the first round of the 2010 Nera White Invitational Basketball Tournament, held in Lafayette, December 28-30 of last week.

After the girls of Middle TN Heat and York Institute battled out game one of the girls bracket, Macon County opened the flood gates for York’s second battle of the tournament.
Macon County led 18-7 over York in the first quarter, and never looked back for a 65-46 victory.
Katie Reid led the Tigerettes with 20 points, followed by Kailyn Brooks with 16 points, Kelsey Gregory with 12 points, Katelyn Bean with eight points, Terra Pryor with five points, Katie Beth Meador and Whitney Wilburn with two points each.

The MCHS Tigerettes then advanced to the championship game against McMinn Central (13-1).
Macon County opened the challenge with a 13-7 advantage, however during the second quarter, McMinn picked up the pace to only trail 24-23 as moments continued to tick away on the game clock. Tigerette Kailyn Brooks nailed a two-point basket as the halftime buzzer sounded to inch Macon County’s lead, 26-23 during the halftime break.
In the third quarter, the score remained tied throughout the period, however McMinn was able to pull ahead in the final quarter to claim a 49-42 win over Macon County. The Tigerettes, now 11-1, claimed the second place trophy.
Kelsey Gregory led Macon County with 14 points, followed by Kailyn Brooks with ten points, Katie Reid with seven points, Katelyn Bean with six points, Haley Harris with three points, and Terra Pryor with two points.
