Tigers Defeat Smith Co. in Nera White Tournament

 The Macon County High School Tigers Basketball team opened the first round of the Nera White Basketball Tournament with a 49-37 victory over Smith County.

In the first quarter, Macon County led 16-10, but the Owls tried to make a comeback before the halftime break to shadow MCHS, 23-21.

Macon County outscored Smith Co. 34-28 in the third quarter, and 15-9 in the final period, before sending their opponent to the other side of the brackets.

Dallas Grace led the team with 13 points, followed by Zack Billenstein with 11 points, Tyler Manning with seven points, Shawn Kemp, Andrew Kempf, Trey McPherson, and Brantley Russell with four points each, and Mic Wise with two points.

The win advanced the Tigers (7-5) to face the boys of Middle Tennessee Heat on December 29, 2010 for the second round of the tournament.

Macon County found themselves trailing 33-29 during the halftime break, however returned in the third quarter to take a 45-40 advantage over Middle TN Heat. In the final round, the Tigers dominated the court 11-9 for a 56-49 victory, advancing them to the championship round of the tournament.

Zack Billenstein led Macon County (8-6) with 24 points, followed by Dallas Grace with ten points, Shawn Kemp, Brantley Russell, and Tyler Manning with five points each, Mic Wise with four points, and Trey McPherson with three points.

 

In the final game, the Tigers faced Germantown, and after a continuous fight, Macon County suffered a 72-39 loss.
From this game, the MCHS Tigers claimed the second place trophy of the Nera White tournament.
