Macon Co. Teams Defeat Goodpasture in 1st 9AA District Challenge

The Macon County High School Tigers hosted Goodpasture Christian last Friday night, January 7, 2011 for the Tigers and Tigerettes first District 9AA challenge.

In the girls game… The MCHS Tigerettes dominated Goodpasture (6-7) in the first quarter 18-14, however the table was flipped just before the halftime break, producing a 32-point tie.

The Tigerettes returned in the third quarter to re-gain control of the game, and held on throughout the final period to claim a 71-64 victory over Goodpasture.

Katelyn Bean led Macon County to victory with 29 points, including three 3-pointers, followed by Katie Reid with 12 points, Kelsey Gregory with 11 points, Kailyn Brooks with ten points, Haley Harris with five points, and Terra Pryor with four points. With the win, the Tigerettes improved to 13-1 for the season.

In the boys game… The MCHS Tigers opened the first quarter with a 14-10 advantage over Goodpasture, but by the halftime break, their opponent had inched their way upward to trail by one point, 24-23.

The Tigers returned to the third quarter and exploded the board with 17 points, and allowing a low-four from Goodpasture (5-8) to lead 41-27.

Macon County did not let down their guard in the last quarter of play, while continuing to press forward for a 56-37 district victory.

Dallas Grace led the Tigers with 16 points, followed by Tyler Manning with 13 points, Zack Billenstein with 12 points, Trey McPherson with six points, Tyler Clark and Shawn Kemp with three points each, Aaron Carter with two points, and Andrew Kempf with one point. With the win, Macon County improved to 10-6 for the season.
