RBSJHS Bulldogs Return in 2nd Half to Defeat Eagles 38-35 – Lady Bulldogs Downed by Westmoreland

The Red Boiling Springs Junior High Bulldog Basketball team made a trailing comeback in the third quarter to tie the Westmoreland Eagles at 17 points, during the January 6, 2011 basketball game.
The Eagles grabbed the lead early in the game with three consecutive three-point shots, and denying RBS all but four points from Dallas Greanead and Skyler Holden. After one round of play, Westmoreland lead 9-4, and by halftime, the Bulldogs were trailing 15-11.
Alex Mullinix inched RBS closer with two-points to open the third quarter, which was immediately answered by Westmoreland. Exhausting the first minute of the game clock, the Red Boiling Springs’ Mullinix and Greanead duo acquired the Bulldogs first lead of the night, 18-17.
The score was knotted twice more in the third quarter, before Bulldog Zane Roberts plucked out a three-point shot to edge Westmoreland 24-21 when the buzzer sounded.
During the last quarter of play, the score remained close with the Bulldogs dominating the scoreboard until Westmoreland picked up two back to back lay-ups to tie the game at 33 each with 41.8 seconds left in the game. At that moment, one of Westmoreland’s top Eagles #10 fouled out, and picked up a technical penalty, producing a double bonus situation for Red Boiling Springs. Screams filled the air, as Bulldog #10 Zane Roberts and #15 Alex Mullinix stepped to the line, making all four shots.
Westmoreland achieved their next two-point attempt to shadow the Bulldogs 37-35 with 22.5 second left to play, however an Eagle fouled Dallas Greanead eight seconds later, making a three point game lead for Red Boiling Springs.
Westmoreland had time for one more possession, with 2.9 on the game clock. Racing to their WMS’ side of the court and stopping at the three-point line, Eagle #24 missed the hoop by inches, allowing the Bulldogs to claim the win 38-35.
In the girls game… Westmoreland denied the Lady Bulldogs all but two points in the first quarter of play to lead 13-2, which was achieved by RBS’ Kristen Stacey.
The second period resembled the first, with Red Boiling Springs’ Emily Gregory adding only two points to their score, as the Lady Eagles took off to hold a 22-4 halftime advantage.
Red Boiling Springs added three points in the third quarter by Lady Bulldog Kaitlyn McCarter, as Westmoreland continued to inch forward to lead 27-7.
Heading into the last period, Lady Bulldog Madison Medrano picked up eight points to lead Red Boiling Springs, however the Lady Eagles capitalized the win with a final score of 34-14.
The local junior high basketball teams from Red Boiling Springs and Macon County will be participating in the (CRC) Highland Rim Conference Tournament on January 12-15, 2011. Good luck teams!
