Ice Puts Another Freeze on Basketball Action

The current deep freeze has put local basketball games on ice, at least most of it.

With schools closed since Monday, January 10, most all of the practices and regularly scheduled games were called off throughout most of the week.

On Tuesday night, Red Boiling Springs High School’s District 8A match against Friendship Christian was postponed and has been rescheduled for Thursday, January 20, 2011 at 6 p.m. in Red Boiling Springs. Also being re-scheduled from the Tuesday night closing was the Macon County High School Basketball game at Greenbrier, which was rescheduled for this past Saturday, January 15, 2011. This game is published on page B15 in this week’s edition.

The local junior high basketball teams from Macon County and Red Boiling Springs were scheduled to participate in the Highland Rim Conference Tournament this past week, January 12-15, however the icy road conditions has forced the tournament to be put on hold. It has been rescheduled for this coming Wednesday, January 19-22, 2011.

The forecast for the latter part of last week remained low; as Saturday was the first day temperatures rose above 40 degrees.
Macon County was scheduled to host Sycamore on Friday, January 14, for a District 9AA battle, however Cheatham County has a rule that prohibits games being played if the school day was cancelled. This game has since been rescheduled for January 24, 2011, in Lafayette.

The 1st Annual Boy Scouts of America Basketball Tournament, scheduled for Saturday, January 15th at Lafayette Elementary School was also cancelled due to the inclement weather.

Jr. Pro Basketball games have been pushed forward by one week, due to cancelled practices before the start of the season.
Macon County High School plans to travel to White House on January 18, 2011, with their next home game to be played on Friday, January 21st against Westmoreland. They are scheduled to travel to Gallatin on January 22, with the girls’ game set to begin at 6:30 p.m.

Red Boiling Springs High School plans to host Middle Tennessee Heat on January 18, with the girls game set to begin at 6 p.m. RBS will then travel to Westmoreland on January 22, 2011, and on January 25th they plan to travel to Watertown, with each of those challenges set to begin at 6 p.m.

The Macon County Junior High School basketball teams plan to host Walter J. Baird on January 20, 2011, with the 7th grade girls game to begin at 4:45 p.m. with the others to immediately follow. MCJHS will host Livingston on January 27th for their last scheduled season game, which begins at 6 p.m. The Highland Rim Conference tournament on January 19-22, is Red Boiling Springs Junior High’s last scheduled basketball event.
