Local H.S. Regional Basketball Action

The Red Boiling Springs High School Bulldogs and the Macon County High School Tigers lost two close games last Saturday night, February 26, 2011, that ended each of their season in Regional play.

Every team that played in the challenges on Saturday night knew this game would be the last one in somebody’s season, so they each placed their best effort’s out on the line, which showed during the two neck-in-neck battles.
For the Bulldogs challenge, they kept the trail close in each quarter, shadowing 8-6 in the first quarter, 25-20 in the second quarter, 36-33 in the third quarter, before running out of time in the final period to suffer a 52-41 defeat by Clarkrange. The game saw four ties, with the last being at 33 each in the third quarter with 1:57 left on the game clock. The Bulldogs were trailing by two points with 4:19 left in the game, however the Buffalos were able to up their score with several free-throws and one 3-point shot.

The RBS Bulldogs ended their season 18-14 in regional play. Wes Grace led the Bulldogs with 20 pts., followed by Andrew Mullinix with 8, Aaron Francis 6, Jordan Meador 3, and Jordan Grace and Shelton Watson with 2 each.
For the Tigers challenge, another heartbreaker came for our other local boys basketball team, as Macon County (20-10) lost to Maplewood, (ranked 8th in the state at 22-4) by a score of 46-45.

Fans commented the Tigers played their best game this season as Macon County kept the score within points of their adversary, shadowing the Panthers 11-9 in the first quarter and 19-18 in the second quarter. The Tigers were able to take the lead in the third quarter 34-32, however Maplewood snuck past with a one-pt. advantage that ended the game. Dallas Grace led the Tigers with 18 pts., followed by Zack Billenstein with 9, Tyler Manning 8, Shawn Kemp 5, Mic Wise 3, and Andrew Kempf 2.

The Red Boiling Springs High School Lady Bulldogs and the Macon County High School Tigerettes won their first Regional challenges Friday night, February 25, 2011, and will advance to the second round Monday night, February 28, 2011.

The RBS Lady Bulldogs defeated Pickett County for the third time this season, by a final score of 69-45. Layce Colter led RBS with 25 pts., followed by Heather Jenkins with 11, Mackenzie Painter and Katie Hix with 10 each, Marina Evans with 6, Kaitlyn McCarter 4, Hannah Hollis 2, and Kalisha Lynch 1.

The RBS Lady Bulldogs will play Trousdale County for their next Region 4A game.

The MCHS Tigerettes defeated Whites Creek by a final score of 82-60. Katie Reid and Kelsey Gregory led MCHS with 18 pts., followed by Katelyn Bean with 12, Haley Harris 9, Kailyn Brooks 7, Terra Pryor 6, Katie Beth Meador and Whitney Wilburn with 4 each, and Macey Kemp and Alyssa Tuck with 2 each.

The Tigerettes will play Christ Presbyterian Academy for their next Region 5AA game.
