Macon Cross Country Begins Season

By Mark Darnell

  On 9/1/11
the Mid-State Cross Country Association held it first meet of the season at
Sharps Springs Park in Smyrna Tennessee.

The
Voyles Classic is named in honor of Markie Voyles, a runner from White County
High School who was killed by a drunk driver in her Senior year. Markie ran for
the Macon County High Track team in 2007 (thru a TSSAA co-op program) and  Voyles won two State Championships for MCHS.
Runners from 70 MSCCA member schools ran Thursday night. Macon County Girls
placed 8th in their division of 21 teams, while the Macon Boys
finished 16th in a division of 29 teams.
