MCHS Captures Boys and Girls District Titles
On September 9th, 2011 the MCHS
Golf team attended the Division I Class A-AA District Tournament held at Swan
Lake Golf Course in Clarksville, Tennessee.
In attendance were fifteen different boys
teams with a total of 85 competing in the match. MCHS finished in 1st
place with a total of 309, Montgomery Central 319 and Greenbrier High School
325. Austin Williams shot 73 (+1) and tied along with two other players forcing
a playoff. He won the playoff with a birdie on the first playoff hole taking
the 1st Place Medalist for boys. Colin Linville and Zach Polston
both shot 77, tied for 5th place. Rounding out the individual scores
were Larken Whittemore 82 (T-16th) and Ian Whittemore 92 (T-36th).
The MCHS girls also competed in the District
competition held the same day at the same course. There were eight different
female teams that included 25 different golfers. The MCHS girls finished in 1st
place with a total of 181, McEwen 205, and Montgomery Central 206. Kaitlin
Cartwright tied for 4th place medalist which forced a playoff. She
won with a par on the first playoff hole. Team scores were Cartwright 90 (4th),
Lauren Gammons 91 (6th), and Kaleigh Chitwood 96 (T-7th).
With these wins both the boys and girls teams
will travel on to the regional tournament to be held on September 19th,
2011 at Montgomery Bell State Park Golf Course in Dickson, TN. The winner goes
to the state tournament to be held the following week.
