My View from the Pressbox-Greenbrier
By Tim Case
The MCHS Tigers hosted the Greenbrier Bobcats
this past Friday night at Pat Parker Memorial Field. The Tigers struggled early in the game
offensively but the Defense rose to the occasion.
After an
interception at midfield and a runback into Tiger territory, the Bobcats score
first on a 25 yard TD run by James Strong.
Carson Cook blocked the PAT and the Bobcats led 6-0 with 3:38 left in
the 2nd quarter. The Tigers
answer right back with a 99 yard 7 play drive as Tyler Drown scored on a two
yard fullback dive. Cook misses the PAT and
the halftime score was 6-6.
The Tiger’s defense
forced a three and out to start the 2nd half and the Tiger offense
took advantage of their opportunity as they march 71 yards in 9 plays with
freshman Dale Turner getting the TD with a 7 yard run off right tackle. The PAT was good by Cook. Tigers led 13-6. The defense made another great stop as the
Bobcats go for it on 4th down on their own 37 and fail. On the next play Dallas Grace Finds Tyler Manning
in the end zone for a 37 yard TD pass.
PAT was good by Cook and at 4:10 in the 3rd, Tigers led 20-6. The ensuing kickoff was high
and short as the Bobcat receiver couldn’t make the catch and Dallas grace recovered
the ball at the 36 yard line. Two plays
later Tyler Drown scored for the 2nd time with a 30 yard TD run on a
trap play up the middle. PAT was good by
Cook, Tigers led 27-6. With :11 left in
the 3rd qtr., the Bobcats scored on a 73 yard 7 play drive to make
the score 27-13.
The 4th
quarter was a defensive struggle for both teams. Grace took a knee at the Greenbrier four yard line to run the clock out and seal the
win for the Tigers. Final score was
27-13.
The Tigers are now
3-3 for the season and 2-1 in the district standings. The Tigers will host DeKalb County this week
for homecoming .
DeKalb is 6-1 with their only loss being Smith County. Come out cheer the Tigers on to Victory and
“I’ll see you at the game.”
