My View from the Press Box: Westmoreland
By Tim Case
The MCHS Tigers
traveled to Westmoreland this past Friday night to take on the Eagle’s. The Tigers
needed the win to secure a wildcard 4A playoff spot.
Macon County scored
on the opening drive on a QB sneak by Dallas Grace capping a 65 yard 10 play
drive. Point after was good by Carson Cook.
Macon led 7-0. The Eagles’ first
drive ended with an interception by Grace at the Tiger 35 yard line. Grace connected with Jacob Salyer on a ten yard
TD pass to end a six play 65 yard drive.
PAT good by Cook. 14-0 lead Macon. Westmoreland answered back with a nine play
70 yard drive as Champion scored on an eight yard run. PAT good Macon now led 14-7. Westmoreland scored again with 3:53 in the 2nd
quarter to tie the game 14-14. Macon scored
with :20 to go in the 2nd quarter on another QB sneak by Grace. The PAT was no good and the Tigers led at
halftime 20-14.
The only score by
either team in the 2nd half was a 68 yard punt return by Tyler
Manning. Mason Doss added the PAT and
the Tigers secure the win and a playoff bid with a final score of 27-14.
Macon County will
enter the playoffs as the #6 seed in the 3rd quadrant and will
travel to Jackson to face #3 seed Liberty Tech Magnet. Liberty finished the regular season 7-3 and
runner-up in district 14AA. Coach
Pemberton said after the game “The playoffs is a whole new season. Everybody starts with a record of 0-0. Anything can happen. Just getting to playoffs is not enough; we
need to make some noise!” Looking at the
map, the trip to Jackson is just over a 3 hour drive. Please be careful and be loud and “I’ll see
you at the game.”
