R.B.S. Hosts Tip-Off Classic

By Wally Ethridge

One of the oldest jr. high basketball classic
tournaments got under way last Tuesday night with the RBS Bulldogs taking on
Algood Middle School in Red Boiling Springs.

The boys game with Algood was not very pretty if
you are an Algood fan as the boys from RBS jumped out to a 25-5 lead after the
first quarter as they were led by Tyler Carlise 17 points in the first quarter
and the Bulldogs went on to beat Algood 73-21.
By halftime this game was a no contest issue
with Tyler scoring 6 more points and teammates Seth Carlise adding 9 points and
chase long also scored 9 points while Cole Dziekiewicz adding a basket to give
the bulldogs a 43-10 halftime lead.

Coach McKinnie cleared his bench in the third
quarter and these kids responded by scoring 25 points in the third quarter to
increase the lead to 68-13.The third quarter scoring was led by chase long with
6 points and Tyler Carlise also scoring 6 points. Other RBS kids scoring in the
third quarter were Chance Asberry with 4 points and Wesley Fleming and Tim
Jones plus Michael Tirjan each with 2 points. Not to be overlooked was a big
3-point basket from reserve Chris Ray. Tim Jones added 5 points in the fourth
quarter and Wesley Fleming rounded out the Bulldog scoring with 2 points.

While Algood is not in top season form you can
bet come Thursday night there will be a battle as the Bulldogs take on long
time rival Clay County. Look for our report in the sports pages of the Macon County Chronicle in this week’s
edition.

This tournament is somewhat different as each of
the 4 teams play the other 3 teams no matter who wins and who loses. Red
Boiling Springs will play Prescott on Saturday to close out their part of the
tournament.
