Gordonsville Boys Ease Past Bulldogs

 By Wally Etheridge

The Red Boiling Springs Bulldogs would welcome Gordonsville to the Dog Pound last Tuesday night and if anyone needed a victory in the worst kind of way it was the Bulldogs. Gordonsville had not been playing well as of late so the Bulldogs were looking to jump out to a lead and post a victory over a pretty fair basketball team. Gordonsville would be the team to jump out to a comfortable lead and never looked back as they handed the Bulldogs a 48-35 loss.

The Bulldogs hung tough the first quarter trailing only by one point 12-11 going into what turned out to be the Bulldogs undoing as they managed only 8 points while Gordonsville tallied 17 points in the second quarter to take a 29-16 lead at half time in a very low scoring game. The Bulldogs saw veteran center David Williams pick up his third foul with 6 minutes left in the second quarter.

The Bulldogs came out the second half knowing they had to get their act together or they were going to get blown out of their own gym. The third quarter was so much like the second quarter as the harder the Bulldogs played the better Gordonsville effort would get. The Bulldogs could manage only 5 points for the third quarter while Gordonsville posted 12 points to take a 41-21 lead into the final stanza. The final quarter would be much better for the Bulldogs as Erin Francis and Cody Dickens knocked down some long 3 point baskets and David Williams would get on the boards but it was to little to late and the Bulldogs 48-35 loss was now in the history books.

As with the Lady Bulldogs these kids are playing hard only to see their efforts not be enough to stay in the game. The Bulldogs now must go to Westmoreland on Friday night and that will not be easy for both teams because they have a history of playing tough low scoring games. This is a district game so the importance of this contest will be one of great significance for both teams. Bulldog scoring for the game Cody Dickens-12 points-David Williams-10 points-Erin Francis 9 points while Matt French had 4 points.
