RBS Lady Dogs fall to Gordonsville
By Wally Etheridge
The Lady Bulldogs had a victory staring them in the face last Tuesday night only to see The Lady Tigerettes regain their poise and make some very critical free throws down the stretch to win a district game in the final minutes with a 49-44 victory thus breaking the hearts of the Lady Bulldog faithful.
Red Boiling Springs had a very tough first half shooting the ball and making un-enforced turnovers and as a result of these mistakes found themselves trailing at halftime 28-19. The Lady Bulldogs could have been a lot closer but missed free throws cost them big time. A much larger problem loomed for the Lady Bulldogs and in the final 5 minutes of this game that ugly problem raised it's head in Morgan Burgener fouling out of this game and then to put the final nail in the comeback Power forward Katie Hix followed Burgener to the bench with her 5th foul and the Lady Bulldog comeback faded into the night.
How close did the Lady Bulldogs come to winning this game you ask. With 4 minutes left in the game the Red Boiling Springs girls actually made it all the way back even taking the lead at 41-40 but could not hold on and the face on these kids told the whole story of giving everything they had only to fall short once again.
These girls are starting to play a lot better than they did at the start of the year and a victory is just around the corner if they give the effort they did against Gordonsville.
The Lady Bulldogs were led in scoring with Senior Morgener Burgener 15 points followed by Katie Hix and Ashlyn Murphy with 7 points each. Kaitlyn MCcarter scored 5 points as did Kalish Lynch. Mayson Burgener had 3 points and Kristen Davis finished out the Lady Bulldog scoring with 2 points.
The Lady Bulldogs must now go on the road to Westmoreland on Friday night before returning home to take on Gabriel Christian on Tuesday night. How about 2 wins ladies?
