Tigerettes Compete at Beech Invitational

By Mark Darnell

The Tigerettes competed in the holiday Beech Invitational Tournament in Sumner County.

Right out of the gate Macon was to face Arlington, a team that went deep in the playoffs last season in AA.  In the first half Bean and Coley chipped in 24 of the Macon 26 points. Macon just could not get the baskets to fall and they trailed 26-34 at the half. The second half proved more of the same as the Tigerettes just couldn’t get their game going and lost by a final of 52-65. Coley led MCHS with 22 points.

Macon then faced East Literature. The intensity seemed to be back as Macon came out firing, hitting 5 of 6 three pointers and playing some great defense. At the half the Tigerettes had the game well in hand, leading 46-19. Coach Beam was able to empty the bench in the last half and MCHS cruised to a 63-30 victory. Katie Reid led Macon with 14 points.

MCHS was to meet Siegel in their final game. Fans weren’t quite sure which team was present as Macon seemed to be sluggish and Coach Beam was forced to use two time-outs in back to back possessions. At the end of one MCHS led 13-10. However, the Tigerettes got the message and pushed their lead to 30-19 at halftime. In the second half, the Lady Stars would try to make a run, but Macon held them off and won by a final score of 68-49.Coley led all scorers with 26 points.

Brooks had a scare in the second half, taking a nasty fall while taking a charge. Macon fans hope that she and the rest of the Tigerettes will be ready for the balance of the season after the first of the year.
