MCHS Tigers Handle Greenbrier

By Mark Darnell

The Greenbrier Bobcats came calling last Tuesday evening. The contest marked the first District 9 AA home game of the 2011-2012 season.

The Tigers were clicking on all cylinders tonight. Baskets inside and jump shots outside seemed to be falling in a basket which appeared to be as big as wash-tub. The Tigers quietly moved out to a 24-9 lead after one period.

Senior Guard Dallas Grace was on fire in the second. He scored 12 of his game high 20 points in the second period, hitting two long range three point shots.  At the half the Tigers had the contest well in hand and led by a score of 44-16.

Coach Jason Welch was able to play his entire bench in the third. Macon quickly had the Bobcats down by 35 and the clock ran continually.  Nine different Tigers scored in the third period alone. The highlight of the period was a break-away two handed dunk by Tyler Clark.

The Tigers weren’t able to score many points in the fourth quarter. However, it didn’t really matter as Greenbrier was only able to cut the deficit below 35 in the final moments of the contest. Final score was Macon 67 Greenbrier 34.

Scoring for the Tigers were: Tyler Manning 4, Trey McPherson 6, Dallas Grace 20, Brantley Russell 2, Dalton Shrum 13, Aaron Carter 4, Tyler Clark 9, Dillon McCormick 3, Peyton Clark 3, Justin Tucker 2, and Austin McClard 3. Andrew Kempf, Daniel Gregory, and Mason Shrum all played but did not score.

Macon has three games this week. They face White House at home on Tuesday the 17th, Westmoreland away on Friday the 20th, and Gallatin at home on Saturday the 21st.
