Tigerettes Say Good-Bye to Seniors
By Mark Darnell
The Macon County Tigerettes improve to 23-4 on the season, picking up two wins over White House and Westmoreland. While they finish the regular season in a tie for first place in District 9AA, they say farewell to four terrific senior players.
On Feb 7th Macon County traveled to Sumner County to face the White House Blue Devils. In the first quarter Calamity Coley poured in 7 of her game high 31 points and staked MCHS to a 15-6 lead after one. Terra Pryor then heated up the net scoring eight in the second and MCHS led 31-21 at the half. What unfolded in the third and fourth periods was a scoring bonanza for Coley, shooting 10-15 from the field. Of note, Katie Reid and Kelsey Gregory both sat for this game, trying to get both Macon starters some rest before the final season tournament push. Final score MCHS 67 White House 58.
Scoring were: Kailyn Brooks 8, Terra Pryor 14, Calamity Coley 31, Katelyn Bean 10, and Briley Driver 4. Reese Shrum, Whitney Wilburn, Michaela Thompson, and Leah Anderson all saw action but did not score.
In the final regular season game, MCHS hosted District 9 AA rival Westmoreland. A packed gym came to see the final district contest of the season on Senior Night for the Tigerettes. Hopefully parents of Calamity Coley, Katelyn Bean, Michaela Thompson, and Katie Reid haven’t seen the last game their talented girls will play this season in Nera White Gymnasium.
The Tigerettes needed this win to finish the season in a tie for first place heading into the District tournament. Macon blanketed the Lady Eagles with great defense and at the end of the first period the Tigerette lead was 15-0. The score at half-time was 24-4 Macon, and the contest seemed decided. The starters were able to push the lead to 39-11 after three before turning the game over to Coach Beam’s bench. The final score was 53-21 as Westmoreland goes 5 of 47 from the field for the game.
Scoring were: Gregory 3, Brooks 7, Pryor 7, Reid 4, Coley 15, Bean 6, Driver 1, Thompson 2, Kemp 1, Ellis 5, and Anderson 2. Shrum, Wilburn, and Tuck all played but did not score.
Macon will travel to Celina on Feb 13th and will play at Vol State later in the week in the District 9 AA Tournament.
