Bulldogs Lose in District 8A Tourney

The Trousdale County Yellow Jackets had just lost to the Red Boiling Springs Bulldogs last week on the Bulldogs’ court in their final regular season game and the Yellow Jackets looked bad for losing that game.

Now we advance one week to the opening round of the District 8A Tournament and this time the Jackets were on a mission to make amends for poor showing in the Bulldogs’ gym, and they were able to come away with a 46-42 win and end the Bulldogs’ season on a losing note.

This game was one of those typical games that once again saw the Bulldogs have one bad quarter that cost them the game, and on this night that was the 3rd quarter, where the Bulldogs could manage only 5 points. It appeared that the Bulldogs were playing not to lose rather than playing to win.

The Bulldogs took a 22-21 lead to the dressing room at halftime, and the lead could have been more, but the Bulldogs simply could not find the bottom of the basket  – shooting only 31 percent from the field. On this night, the Bulldogs only got double digit scoring from Erin Francis with 10 points and Matt French with 12 points.

Red Boiling Springs would cut the lead down to 4 points in the fourth quarter, but could not get any closer. I must say though, these kids never gave up and fought hard the whole game only to see a poor shooting night bring their season to an end.

Bulldog coach Michael Owens was pleased with the effort and had praise for his kids. “We simply could not make very many shots and when you shoot the ball as bad as we did then you are not going to win many games. I just hate for our season to end this way.”

Coach Owens went on to say thanks to all of the parents and Bulldogs fans for their support for this season. “While we graduate all of our starting team next year, we will go back to work and hopefully have an exciting team,” he said.

Scoring totals on this night: Matt French – 12 points, Erin Francis – 10 points, Matt Brockette – 6 points, David Williams – 5 points, Zack Roberts and Ty Tuck – 4 points each while Cody Dickens – 1 point.

One final note on this team from my point of view was the effort that these kids gave every night, and they played hard every night even though some games were out of hand. Thanks kids.
