RBSHS Girls Lose to Trousdale County in Semi-Finals of District 8A

The Red Boiling Springs Lady Bulldogs came into their semi-final game of the district 8A tournament needing only a victory over the Lady Yellow Jackets to put them in the finals against Gordonsville on Monday night.

That victory did not happen as the Lady Bulldogs came out on the short end of a 61-41 loss to the Jackets.

Everyone from both sides of the gym expected this game to be very close and that was the case until Lady Bulldog coach Larry White was called for a technical foul with 38.4 seconds left in the second quarter and the Lady Bulldogs up by 3 points. This turned the entire game around for the Lady Jackets by making both foul shots and then nailing a 3-pointer. By the halftime buzzer the Lady Bulldogs trailed by three points at 28-25. The Lady Bulldogs never recovered.

Trousdale County’s kids came out in the third quarter and played better than they have all year long. Five minutes into the third quarter the lead was 14 points, and for all practical purposes this game was over. When you have four players that score in double figures as the Yellow Jackets did, and you can hold your opponent to 16 second-half points, then you are going to win almost every game you play.

All is not lost for the Lady Bulldogs because they still have the Regional tournament starting this week in Livingston to get their act together and play some inspired ball. This is the time of the year when Coach White usually has his teams at the top of their game, and they still have that chance to prove they are and will be ready when their backs are up against the wall.

Trousdale County now advances to the Championship game to play Coach Butch Agee and his Gordonsville Lady Tigerettes.

Scoring for the Lady Bulldogs: Morgan Burgener and Katie Hix had 11 points each, Kalisha Lynch-7 points, Kelsey Jenkins-6 points, while Kristen Davis and Mayson Burgener each had 3 points.

Scoring for Trousdale County: Shelby Gregory – 19 points, Natalie Story – 16 points, Hannah Gregory – 11 points, Sidney Shoulders – 10 points and Bailey Howell – 5 points.

We may never know why, but with the Lady Jackets up 61-41 and 13 seconds left in the game, Trousdale County Coach Jeremy Wilhelm called a time out, and when asked about the call after the game coach, Wilhelm had no comment. Kind of strange, to say the least. Some of the Red Boiling Springs fans were asking why but, to be fair to Coach Wilhelm, he does not have to tell us why.
