Tigers advance in District 9-AA Tournament

The MCHS Tigers will move ahead to the District 9-AA after beating the Eagles of Westmoreland on Saturday. This win puts MCHS into the finals to be played on Tuesday the 21st of February.



Macon appeared to be focused and determined. Senior Tyler Manning came out firing, connecting with three 3 point baskets in the period. After one the Tigers led 15-8. The Eagles fell into a bit of foul trouble as Macon was able to connect on 8 of 12 free throws in the second period. At the half Macon led 29-19, but you didn’t have a sense that this contest was over.

The Eagles pushed hard to mount a comeback in the third. However some unselfish passes and team play kept Westmoreland at bay. Macon played good team defense and shared the rock on offense. The Tigers shot 9 of 19 from behind the arc as a team for the game and ran away with the win. Final score Macon 64 Westmoreland 39. Senior Tyler Manning finished the game numb, connecting on 6 of 7 three point shots.

Scoring were: Tyler Manning 19, Andrew Kempf 4, Trey McPherson 11, Dallas Grace 7, Dalton Shrum 9, Brantley Russell 2, Aaron Carter 7, and Tyler Clark 5. Dillon McCormick, Peyton Clark, Justin Tucker, Daniel Gregory, Austin McClard, and Mason Shrum all played but did not score.

In a mild upset, number six seed Greenbrier advances over number two seed Sycamore to face the Tigers in the finals. The game will be played at Vol State on Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m.
